We report recent results on charmed meson decays, obtained using the Mark III detector at SPEAR. The first topic discussed is the observation of ee− .-->. D/sub s/D/sub s/* at .sqrt.s = 4.14 GeV. The D/sub s/* is detected as a peak in the mass distribution recoiling from D/sub s//sup + -/ .-->. phi.pi./sup + -/. The mass of the D/sub s/* is found to be (2109.3 +- 2.1 +- 3.1)MeV/c2, yielding a D/sub s/*-D/sub s/ mass difference of (137.9 +- 2.1 +- 4.3) MeV/c2. The production cross section times branching ratio is also measured. Next, a search for the decay D .-->. .mu.+nu/sub .mu./ is described. A preliminary upper limit (90% CL) on B(D+ .-->. .mu.+nu/sub .mu./) of 8.4 x 10−4 is obtained, corresponding to an upper limit on the decay constant f/sub D/ of 340 MeV/c2. Finally, we present results of a search for the lepton family number violating decay D° .-->. .mu.e. We find B(D° .-->. .mu.e)

The authors present a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B{sup 0} {yields} a{sub 1}{sup {+-}}(1260){pi}{sup {-+}} with a{sub 1}{sup {+-}}(1260) {yields} {pi}{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}}. The data sample corresponds to 218 x 10{sup 6} B{bar B} pairs produced in e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation through the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance. The authors measure the branching fraction {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} a{sub 1}{sup {+-}}(1260){pi}{sup {-+}}){Beta}(a{sub 1}{sup {+-}}(1260){yields} {pi}{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}})=(16.6 {+-} 1.9 {+-} 1.5) x 10{sup -6}, where the first error quoted is statistical and the second is systematic.

Charmed meson production through two body processes in ee− annihilation is discussed. Evidence for states of charm excitation beyond the D* is obtained through an analysis of the recoil spectrum against D's produced at Ecm = 4.415 GeV. Direct observation of the reaction D* .-->. .pi.+D° in SPEAR data taken at Ecm exceeding 5 GeV is discussed. This reaction provides an extremely accurate determination of the D*+, D° mass difference (M/sub D*/sup +// -- M/sub D°/ = 145.3 +- 0.5 MeV/c2) and a new upper limit on D° -- anti D° mixing effects. The results of fits to the D°, D/sup +/ recoil spectrum are discussed. These fits provide considerable information on the masses, production mechanisms, and decays of charmed mesons. This is followed by a brief presentation of the known cross sections for charmed meson production and decay and an analysis of possible resonant structure in the decay products of the D° and D/sup +/. Lastly, a bubble chamber D° candidate submitted by Hagopian et al., of Florida State University is discussed.

The authors use data collected by the displaced track trigger of the CDF Run II detector at TeVatron to measure the B mesons lifetime in the hadronic decays: B{sub u} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}, B{sub d} {yields} D{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sub d} {yields} D{sup {-+}}3{pi}, B{sub s} {yields} D{sub s}{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sub s} {yields} D{sub s}{sup {-+}}3{pi}. Recent developments in the measurement of the lifetime of the charmless B{sub s} {yields} K{sup +}k{sup -} mode is presented.

We present recent results on light mesons based on Dalitz plot analyses of charm decays from Fermilab experiment E791. Scalar mesons are found to have large contributions to the decays studied, D[sup+][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup+] and D[sup+], D[sub s][sup+][yields][pi][sup -][pi][sup+][pi][sup+]. From the K[pi][pi] final state, we find good evidence for the existence of the light and broad k meson and we measure its mass and width. We also discuss recently published results on the 3[pi] final states, especially the measurement of the f[sub 0] parameters and the evidence for the[sigma] meson from D[sup+][yields][sigma][pi][sup+]. These results demonstrate the importance of charm decays as a new environment for the study of light meson physics.
