Download Diffractive and Exclusive Production at the Tevatron Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Exclusive Higgs production, in which the event consists of nothing but the leading protons and a Higgs boson, has been proposed as a channel in which to study the properties of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Although we do not expect to observe exclusive Higgs-boson production at the Tevatron, we can observe similar processes which provide a calibration for theoretical predictions of exclusive Higgs production at the LHC. The CDF measurements of exclusive dijet and diphoton production, examples of such processes, are presented in Sec. 2. Single diffraction has been studied extensively at the Tevatron in Run I, including diffractive dijet and W/Z-boson production. New results with extended kinematical reach allowed by the larger Run II dataset are presented in Sec. 3. CDF II includes forward detectors designed for studying diffractive physics. The MiniPlug calorimeters cover the pseudorapidity region 3.5>

Download Deep Inelastic Scattering - Proceedings Of The 8th International Workshop Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This volume focusses on four main topics: structure functions, tests of quantum chromodynamics, physics at the highest Q2 and p2T, and high energy scattering and diffraction. Comprehensive review articles on hadronic and photon structure, lepton-parton and parton-parton physics as well as future experimental opportunities are presented, together with a special lecture on HERA's legacy after the first decade of operation.

Download Foundations of Perturbative QCD Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Giving an accurate account of the concepts, theorems and their justification, this book is a systematic treatment of perturbative QCD. It relates the concepts to experimental data, giving strong motivations for the methods. Ideal for graduate students starting their work in high-energy physics, it will also interest experienced researchers.

Download First Observation of Diboson Production in Hadronic Final State at the Tevatron Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
We present the first observation in hadronic collisions of the electroweak production of vector boson pairs (VV; V = W, Z) where one boson decays to a hadronic final state. The data correspond to 3.5 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Event selection requires two identified jets and large transverse momentum imbalance. The analysis employs several novel techniques to suppress multijet background and reduce systematic uncertainties. We observe 1516 ± 239(stat) ± 144(syst) diboson candidate events and measure a cross section of [sigma](p{bar p} 2!VV + X) = 18.0 ± 2.8(stat) ± 2.4(syst) ± 1.1(lumi) pb, in agreement with standard model (SM) expectations.

The traditional purpose of the Adriatic Meeting is to present most advanced scienti?c research conducted by the lecturers who take part in the development of their ?elds and, in addition, to provide a school-like atmosphere for young scientists. Dubrovnik, as a geographical centre of this region of Europe, provided a most adequate location for this conference. Having very agreeable surroundings, the conference site nevertheless gave a focus for very strong scienti?c interaction. The subjects chosen for the 8th meeting, in September 2001, were gauge theories, particle phenomenology, string theories and cosmology. We were able to bring together a very good cross section of outstanding scientists who gave extraorinarily good presentations. Certainely one reason for this success is that most of us feel obliged to help the scienti?c life in South East Europe return to its former level. However, there are very exciting new scienti?c developments as well. Part of the meeting was dominated by neutrino physics which has just seen exciting progress by establishing neutrino masses experimentally. This was d- cussed within neutrino masses and grand uni?ed theories (GUTs). General - pects of neutrino physics and CP violation, neutrino mixing and the bayron asymmetry were presented along the same lines. On the theoretical side the idea of the construction of gauge theories on non-commutative spaces and their phenomenological implications is accepted worldwide within the particle physics community.

Download Forward Physics And Luminosity Determination At Lhc Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Recently there has been much interest in studying events with tagged forward protons at the existing and forthcoming hadronic colliders, the Tevatron and the LHC. These studies not only allow one to monitor the luminosity of the colliding protons with high accuracy but also provide new ways of investigating the subtle issues of QCD dynamics and searches for the manifestations of new physics. This book reviews the state of the art of forward physics measurements and the theoretical development. It will catalyze many new approaches within the framework of the extensive physics programme of the LHC. This in turn will stimulate closer contact between the LHC experiments as well as between the experimentalists and the theorists to maximize the potenntial of LHC physics.
