With high luminosity 6 GeV electron beam, Jefferson Lab (CEBAF)'s study of the nucleon structure is focused on the regime of strong interaction QCD. Highlights are shown on the study of the nucleon form factors, the spin structure, and the nucleon resonances. Selected new results are presented. Future upgrade to 12 GeV is briefly discussed.

Download Nucleon Spin Structure Study at Jefferson Lab Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
I will first review the latest development in the nucleon spin structure study with lepton- nucleon deep inelastic scattering (DIS) from high energy laboratories. I will then concentrate on the progress and plan of study of the nucleon spin structure in the low energy region. With the newly built high luminosity 6 GeV electron beam accelerator and the progress in the highly polarized electron source and highly polarized targets, new experiments are being carried out at Jefferson Lab (CEBAF) to study the nucleon spin structure in the resonance region at low Q2, with focus on the generalized GDH sum rule. Some preliminary results are presented. A generalized GDH sum rule study could provide a first comparison of experimental data with calculations from a fundamental theory over the entire Q2 regime. Taking advantage of the high luminosity of Jefferson Lab, selected spin structure experiments in the DIS region are also planned, concentrating in the valence quark region and the stud y of the quark-gluon correlations through higher twist effects. The parton-hadron duality provides the link between the DIS and the resonance region. Experimental study of duality in spin structure is planned. Outlook of spin structure study with a future 12 GeV energy upgraded Jefferson Lab is discussed.

Download Neutron Spin Structure Measurements in JLab Hall A. Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Recently, the high polarized luminosity available at Jefferson Lab (JLab) has allowed the study of the nucleon spin structure at an unprecedented precision, enabling us to access the hard-to-reach valence quark (high-x) region and also to accurately map the intermediate to low Q2 region. The high-x region is of special interest, because this is where the valence quark contributions are expected to dominate. With sea quarks and explicit gluon contributions expected not to be important, it is a clean region to test our understanding of nucleon structure.

Download Hadron Structure Studies in Hall A at Jlab Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Three examples are presented from the broad program of nucleon structure research in Hall A at Jefferson Lab (JLab): a measurement of the neutron charge form factor to double the squared momentum-transfer of present data, highly accurate cross-section measurements of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering and a program of parity-violating asymmetry studies with the 12 GeV upgrade that will provide sensitive probes of the Standard Model and its extensions.

Download Probing the Structure of Nucleons in the Resonance Region with CLAS at Jefferson Lab Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The physics of electromagnetic excitation of nucleon resonances and of their relevance in nucleon structure studies are discussed. Preliminary data from the CLAS detector on the N-Delta(1232) transition multipoles, the helicity amplitudes of the N*(1535), and the search for so-called ''missing resonances'' at Jefferson Lab are presented.

Download Spin Structure of the Nucleon Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Recent progress in the study of the nucleon structure at Jefferson Lab is presented. Precision measurements of spin asymmetry in the valence quark (large x) region are shown and the polarized quark distributions were extracted. The results were in disagreement with predictions from the leading-order pQCD calculations assuming hadron helicity conservation and revealed the importance of the quark orbital angular momentum. Results on sum rules and moments of the nucleon spin structure functions in the low to intermediate Q2 range are also presented. They provide a bridge between the quark-gluon picture of the nucleon and the coherent hadronic picture. In particular, at low Q2 the results were compared with Chiral Perturbation Theory calculations. Other experiments are also briefly discussed.

Download The Jefferson Lab Contribution to the QCD Spin Structure of the Nucleon Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
From inclusive to semi-inclusive and exclusive (polarized) deep inelastic scattering, the quark structure of the nucleon is being studied with increasingly precise experiments at Jefferson Lab. We will review here the ongoing programs to determine polarized parton distributions--helicity and transversity--as well as generalized parton distributions, addressing the question of intrinsic spin and orbital angular momentum of quarks in the nucleon.

Download 3rd International Workshop on Nucleon Structure at Large Bjorken X Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
These proceedings will be of interest to researchers in nuclear and high-energy physics and graduate students. This workshop focused on the latest developments in the study of the quark structure of the nucleon at large Bjorken x, usually called the valence region. Its main purpose was to bring together experts for an in-depth and critical review of recent advancements in this field of research. This was particularly important in view of the upcoming energy upgrade of Jefferson Lab whose research program will continue to further our understanding of the inner structure of the nucleon.

Download Probing Nucleon Structure with Meson Electro-production in Hall C. Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Meson electro-production is used in Hall C at Jefferson Lab to probe nucleon, baryon and nuclear structure. The experimental program in Hall C includes studies of semi-inclusive pion production, p, d(e, e'[pi]±)X, where low energy factorization has been observed, suggesting that these reactions can be used to probe nucleon structure, including transverse momentum distributions of quarks, at energies available at JLab after the upcoming 12 GeV upgrade.

Summarized in this report is the progress achieved during the period from March 1, 2008 to June 14, 2009 under contract number DE-FG02-03ER41252. This is the final technical report under this contract. The experimental work described here is part of the electromagnetic nuclear physics program of the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) Collaboration at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) that published 17 journal articles during the period of this report. One of these journal articles reported on the results of precise measurements of the neutron magnetic form factor. I was a spokesperson on this experiment and the publication of these results is the culmination of years of effort by a small subset of the CLAS Collaboration. As usual, undergraduate students were involved in all aspects of this work. Three Union College students participated in this program during the window of this report and one presented a paper on his work at the 2009 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR22). In this report, I discuss recent progress on the measurements of the neutron magnetic form factor and describe my service work for the CLAS Collaboration.
