Learn Amharic with new picture dictionary series from trusted publisher of foreign language study guides, Hippocrene Books Amharic is the official working language of Ethiopia, with approximately 30 million speakers. It is the second most widely spoken Semitic language in the world after Arabic. Unlike Arabic, however, Amharic is written left-to-right and uses a distinct script called Ge'ez script. With colorful, eye-catching illustrations to stimulate imagination and curiosity, My First Amharic Dictionary is specially designed for children ages 5 to 12. It contains more than 1,000 everyday words (from colors, animals, household items, foods and more)--each illustrated and translated into Amharic with accompanying phonetic pronunciation. The illustrations are arranged alphabetically by English so even young readers can easily search for words. Each one is labeled with clear, bold type and the commonsense pronunciation makes it easy to begin speaking Amharic right away! Recent studies suggest that children should begin learning a foreign language before age 10 for best results. This dictionary is a fun, engaging way for parents or grandparents to introduce Amharic to young children. Teachers will also find the dictionary useful for students who are learning Amharic from Kindergarten and up.

The boy who became Saint Yared grew up in the ancient kingdom of Axum. According to legend, he struggled as a student, just as this story shows, but eventually triumphed and went on to invent Ethiopia's system of musical notation. His work drew on local traditions and the church concept of the Holy Trinity, while his hymns had four parts based on the four seasons of the year, winter, summer, spring, and autumn. Hundreds of years before European composers developed a seven-note system of writing music, Yared wrote music using dashes, curves, and dots to represent ten different notes.Ready Set Go Books, an Open Hearts Big Dreams Project, is focused on increasing the literacy rate in Ethiopia through giving readers books with stories in their heart languages, full of colorful illustrations with Ethiopian settings and details. Profits from books sales will be used to create, print, and distribute more Ready Set Go Books to kids in Ethiopia, Africa's second most populous country. Ethiopia's population is 44% children, ages 0-14 (43 million out of 97 million total). Only 5.5% of children attend pre-school or kindergarten, and the adult literacy rate is 49%. Our books are based on wise Ethiopian sayings that often rhyme in Amharic. If an adult says the first half, many children can chant the second half. Sometimes the meaning of these sayings is clear. Sometimes it has to be puzzled out and argued over. But sayings and idioms and proverbs help people express truths and beliefs in unusual ways. Open Hearts Big Dreams Fund (OHBD) is a 501(3)(c) not for profit organization that believes the chance to dream big dreams should not depend on where in the world you are born. Our focus is to support nonprofit organizations and their programs that provide literacy, K-12 education, and leadership as well as that support the parents and communities where the kids live, in Ethiopia

Dear Parents, Amharic is written left-to-right using a system that grew out of the Geʽez script. The writing system is called fidäl (ፊደል) in Ethiopian Semitic languages. Fidäl means "script", "alphabet", "letter", or "character". The writing system is also called abugida (አቡጊዳ), from the first four symbols; from this the modern term abugida is derived. Each character represents a consonant+vowel sequence, but the basic shape of each character is determined by the consonant, which is modified for the vowel. Some consonant phonemes are written by more than one series of characters: /ʔ/, /s/, /Sʼ/, and /h/ (the last one has four distinct letter forms). This is because these fidel originally represented distinct sounds, but phonological changes merged them. The language is a basic characteristic which constitutes one's own representation of who you are. Children and Parents may feel that using English as a common language, it won't matter whether they learn Amharic or not. It happens that your child might just stop speaking Indonesian, leading to identity change. Since a child's Amharic language skills are lacking, they will not be able to interact well in Amharic as they do in English. How can parents support their child's learning process? Here the solution is! This book enables your kids to practice and learn letters, words in an interesting way. Content of the book: For each alphabet letter there will be 2 pages. - 1st page has an outline of a letter with the image that starting with that letter, name in Amharic, English with the phonics of Amharic name and image. - The children can color the letter and images that are allocated for each letter. - 2nd page is for practicing the letter and its multiple extended forms. - This book has similar setup for all the alphabets till page number 70. - 71-95 is having box spaces to practice Amharic alphabet further. That looks like a great start right!!! Hope your kids will learn something useful in the meantime. Let us gift meaningful book as a gift to our kids. If you loved the book, we request you to take a moment to review it?. It helps in further progression for our future works. Thanks for your support, Team SECOND TEACHER(TM)
