These are early days for online meetings, so we can expect best practice to evolve, ingenious new features to be added to the available systems, and even cleverer applications to be discovered by those who have to put these tools into practice. At Onlignment, we have put a marker in the sand by developing our own set of rules for better online meetings, based on the best practice that we've been able to glean from around the world and from our own experiences as a virtual team.

Based on the empirical case of an e-learning project of the International Cooperation agency InWEnt / Capacity Building International, this study does all three-in-one: First, it reflects current Web-based and Blended Learning scenarios. Second, it provides a space-theoretical discussion of the foundations of Internet research: the online and physical environments of reference. Moreover, it applies Actor Network Theory to blending online and physical interaction spaces.

The result is an analysis of the emerging social phenomenon of Internet-mediated communication and a study of the social and cultural effects of a medium that allows participants to assume identities of their own choosing.

The idea of virtual realities has a long and complex historical trajectory, spanning from Plato's concept of the cave and the simulacrum, to artistic styles such as Trompe L'oeil, and more recently developments in 3D film, television and gaming. However, this book will pay particular attention to the time between the 1980s to the 1990s when virtual reality and cyberspace were represented, particularly in fiction, as a wondrous technology that enabled transcendence from the limitations of physical embodiment. The purpose of this critical historical analysis of representations of virtual reality is to examine how they might deny, repress or overlook embodied experience. Specifically, the author will contend that embodiment is a fundamental aspect of immersion in virtual reality, rather than something which is to be transcended. In this way, the book aims to challenge distorted ideas about transcendence and productively contribute to debates about embodiment and technology.

Communicating User Experience: Applying Local Strategies Researchto Digital Media Design examines how Local Strategies Research (LSR) helps investigate user experiences with digital media. This edited collection uses case studies to examine the way we communicate in the digital age whether between individuals and digital interfaces (such those installed in cars), dyads via mobile phones and online interfaces, or members of a group through a video conference. Milburn and her contributors consider the cultural norms that both inform and are used during interaction to provide a useful methodology that shifts design (particularly HCI) research from a focus on emotional, subjective user experiences to the everyday practices involved in interacting with one another in and through digital devices and interfaces. Communicating User Experience will be a valuable resource for designers and scholars of communication and new media.

In Managing Congregations in a Virtual Age, John W. Wimberly Jr. draws on the experience of the business community, and on a diverse group of skilled pastors and rabbis, as he lays out the opportunities and challenges of working from home for congregations and staff, offering principles and best practices for successfully managing remote workers and ministries. The move toward working from home is part of a rapidly changing work environment for employers and employees alike. Large parts of the business world have mastered managing their staff, located around the country and the world, virtually. For many faith communities, however, the sudden move to working from home amid the Covid-19 pandemic involved significant upheaval. Fortunately, various forms of technology and productivity tools can make this shift easier. Wimberly focuses on how congregational leaders can ensure accountability and productivity, create a sense of staff as a team, help older staff members learn how to work from home, and determine what hardware and software staff members and the congregation need to support effective communication. This comprehensive guide will serve congregations well into the future, even as technology and circumstances change.
