The recent centenary of WWI has prompted a shift in the way attention is focused on legacy shipwrecks. This timely book considers the development of the laws that apply to these wrecks and the issues that surround them, and deftly analyses the adequacy of the existing legal framework to fulfil its promise of protecting legacy wrecks for future generations as historical and archaeological resources, memorials and, most importantly, as maritime war graves. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Arial}

Download Asian Yearbook of International Law, Volume 25 (2019) Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Launched in 1991, the Asian Yearbook of International Law is a major internationally-refereed yearbook dedicated to international legal issues as seen primarily from an Asian perspective. It is published under the auspices of the Foundation for the Development of International Law in Asia (DILA) in collaboration with DILA-Korea, the Secretariat of DILA, in South Korea. When it was launched, the Yearbook was the first publication of its kind, edited by a team of leading international law scholars from across Asia. It provides a forum for the publication of articles in the field of international law and other Asian international legal topics. The objectives of the Yearbook are two-fold: First, to promote research, study and writing in the field of international law in Asia; and second, to provide an intellectual platform for the discussion and dissemination of Asian views and practices on contemporary international legal issues. Each volume of the Yearbook contains articles and shorter notes; a section on Asian state practice; an overview of the Asian states’ participation in multilateral treaties and succinct analysis of recent international legal developments in Asia; a bibliography that provides information on books, articles, notes, and other materials dealing with international law in Asia; as well as book reviews. This publication is important for anyone working on international law and in Asian studies. The 2019 edition is the Yearbook's 25th volume. To commemorate this achievement, this volume has two reflective articles: the first article presents the history of DILA and its flagship publication, this Yearbook; and the second article provides an overview of the Yearbook's State Practice section beginning with volume 1 to volume 24.

Knowledge about the application of law to maritime commerce not only may prove financially profitable but also provides an exciting intellectual trip through the historical and legal developments behind commercial activities that depend upon the sea. This work analyzes the growth and formation of maritime law across the centuries, including its origin as England s admiralty law and its adoption into the United States Constitution. It sets out information on the jurisdiction and law appropriate for the carriage of goods by sea, personal injuries and death collisions, salvage and wrecks, marine insurance, and marine pollution. Lawyers, professors, and students of law and anyone involved in marine transportation - carriers, shippers, port managers, freight forwarders, and others - will appreciate this book's succinct and readable style. It includes references to statutes, conventions, and cases - including some historical and social background to enliven and clarify the development of admiralty and maritime law in the United States.

Download International Law of Underwater Cultural Heritage Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This book brings together three distinct areas of International Law – namely Environmental, Heritage and Ocean Law – to address the international legal protection of historically significant wrecks, with particular focus on the environmental hazards they may pose. The confluence of Heritage Law and the Law of the Sea with International Environmental Law represents an important development in international governance strategies for the twenty-first century, in particular those legal and administrative regimes that concern the world’s oceans and underwater cultural heritage protection. Importantly, connections between international legal regimes, such as the 1982 Law of the Sea, and institutions like the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and United Nations Education Scientific Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), can play a crucial part in governance strategies that involve the regulation of marine pollution and historic shipwrecks.
