In this volume John Zeak transcribed letters written to him, and letters that he wrote, during the years 1812-1819. Many letters were addressed to him in Middletown, Connecticut, and many were written from Geneseo and Gainesville, N.Y. Zeak attends evangelical camp and prayer meetings while living in Vermont, Connecticut, and New Jersey, which he describes enthusiastically in his letters. He tells of a meeting in the woods, of converts, and of the progress he feels is being made for God, as well as exclaiming about the holiness he sees in his friends and giving his own thanks to God. Beginning on page 164 is the 1850-1859 correspondence of John W. Zeak, a shoe and boot maker living in Arcade, N.Y., and apparently the son of John Zeak. John W., like his father, copied the letters he received from others into the book, but it is rare that he included the letters that he wrote to others. Letters written to him are updates of family life, deaths, and sickness, along with requests for him to visit soon, or requests for new pairs of boots or shoes.
