Claims that he has no business relationship with Edes & Gill, and that he sent them none of the Keysey pills he sent to Knox. He leaves it to Knox to take the proper methods of rendering them saleable. Orders books. States that he has placed an ad in his newspaper for Knox, and asks if he can help him in any other way. Asks if Knox sells fiddles and tells Knox to inform him when he needs additional pills. In regard to the Susquehanna Claim, Rivington indicates that he has sent information about the Pennsylvania Examination into the Claim of Connecticut on the Subject of their Dispute because it might be of interest to Governor of Massachusetts Thomas Hutchinson or Knox's other friends. This land dispute was not completely resolved until 1798 (see GLC03304). Rivington earlier arranged for Knox to advertise some medicine Rivington wanted to sell (see GLC02437.00062). Sends Knox pamphlets which he believes Knox does not have and will be of interest to his customers. Mentions that he has printed a letter to John Hancock in Rivington's New-York Gazetteer and would provide the opportunity for any of Hancock's friends to reply to it. Sent a print for Paul Revere to make an engraving. Hancock was then a Boston selectman and member of the General Court. The letter was possibly a response to Hancock's general anti-British stance or his recent Massacre Day Oration, given in March 1774. Asks him to sell his excess tea, and gives details for the transaction. Indicates that a much larger quantity of the tea he sent is already on its way to Boston. Tells him to work with James Seagrove to sell the additional tea. Thanks him for selling his newspaper, Rivington's New-York Gazetteer. Vouches for the honor and integrity of the Gallant Royals of Wales, British troops on their way to Boston. Congratulates Knox on his recent marriage to Lucy Flucker. The third page is a note to Dr. Goldthwais, in which Rivington authorizes the release of his money to Knox, and in turn, asks Knox to deliver the money to Seagrove. In a letter from 28 July 1774, Rivington explains how he acquired a shipment of illegal Hyson tea and his plans to have Knox sell it in Boston (see GLC02437.00171). The troops he refers to are the Royal Welch Fusiliers, who were also discussed in that earlier letter. Rivington was a bookseller, printer, and journalist who came to America in 1760.
