I became homeless after I got out of the Army and decided to use that time to walk across America. After a few months of living on the road, I realized that I needed some kind of motivation to keep me going. I then began raising money for different charities, as well as being an advocate for showing the positive effects that being outdoors can have on PTSD. As time went on, I became obsessed with making a positive difference through hiking. Three years later, I had inadvertently crossed the entire country three times. Although it may sound like an altruistic stroll through the park, each day presented itself with new and unforeseen challenges. Besides battling hunger, dangerous wildlife, harsh weather conditions, and loneliness, I also had to deal with the fact that most people were unaware of my good intentions. So, not only do you get to follow along on an epic adventure with all its daily struggles, but my journey also unveils what it was like to be homeless in America without any special treatment. Alonzo S. (Jake) Gaither, former head football coach and athletic director of Florida A&M, was named to the Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1975, the first coach of a predominantly black college to be so honored. It was deserved recognition of an incredible career. "I like my boys ag-ile, mo-bile, and hos-tile," Gaither was fond of saying, and apparently they were. In twenty-five years of coaching at Florida A&M, Gaither won 85 percent of his games and never had a losing season. When he retired in 1973, his record of 203-36-4 was better than that of any active coach in the country. Over the years his teams won six national black collegiate championships and every conference title except three - twenty-two out of twenty-five. He also produced at least one All-America player every years except one, and through the years sent over twenty-five of his players to the pros. Gaither was selected small college Coach of the Year three times - by the Associated Press in 1961, by the American Football Coaches Association in 1962, and by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1969. In addition he was awarded two of the highest honors given for coaching, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award and the Walter Camp Award. Here, in an absorbing biography of the man who became a football legend, is the story of how he did it. --From the book jacket.

A driven entrepreneur who made millions in the software industry, John Payton strongly believes that the American system of government is outdated. In fact, he's on a mission to convince the American people that they need a new 'tech-savvy" Constitution. According to John's calculations, such a version would be more effective, save billions of dollars in taxes, and could even establish a form of government closer to pure democracy. With the secret help of an ambitious senator and his brilliant chief of staff, Payton starts a movement called 'Reengineering America." The group is dedicated to pressuring Congress to pass a Constitutional Amendment mandating that a second Constitutional Convention rewrite the document. But Payton's unlikely crusade captures the attention of sinister and powerful forces both in and outside the government. Some want to stop him at any cost-while others want to ensure he succeeds for their own nefarious purposes. Unable to distinguish friend from foe, John Payton must ultimately put his fortune- and his life-at risk trying to convince a dubious nation it's time to modernize a 200 year old system of government.
