Excerpt from History of Trinity Church, Bridgeport, Conn., 1863-1915 During the first winter the Clergy and Vested Choir of the Church of the Nativity at North Bridgeport rendered a full Choral Evensong at Trinity Church once a month. This was the earliest Vested Choir in Connecticut, and the service, though unusual in those days, was duly appreciated, as evidenced by the size of the congregations. Excerpt from One Hundred Years of Trinity Church, Utica, N. Y The illustrations of the building, and the portraits of the founder and several rectors, will undoubtedly lend an interest. The only regret is that a diligent search has failed to secure any photograph of the first three rectors, Rev. Jonathan Judd, Rev. Amos Glover Baldwin, and Rev. Henry M. Shaw. Our gratitude is extended to all those who in these papers, ad dresses and letters, thus willingly and freely contributed their interest and time, as a work of love. Due credit should be given also for the able assistance rendered the editor, by his colleagues on the centennial committee, Mr. William M. Storrs, and Mr. George M. Weaver, the Wardens of the par ish. We trust that this little volume in being a permanent re minder oi the loyalty and good deeds of an honored past, may also be for all its readers an inspiration for the future. With this wish it it respectfully dedicated to all of Old Trinity's sons and daughters, past, present and to come. Excerpt from A History of the Choir and Music of Trinity Church, New York: From Its Organization, to the Year 1897 Dr. Edward Hodges left thirty folio volumes of closely written details of his daily musical life. As they contain much matter of a personal nature, I was not permitted to examine them, but his son, the Rev. J. S. B. Hodges, D.D., of Baltimore, very kindly read to me everything relating to my subject, and I wrote out such extracts then and there. Dr. Cutler gave me the unrestricted use of his pri vate records; two or three small volumes, containing pro grammes of services, criticism, etc. These were also of great value. The Rev. Dr. Dix kindly lent me some extracts from the Vestry Minutes, made for the purpose of his own his tory of the Parish; these covered only a limited period up to 1797. I am also indebted to several veterans of the earlier choirs, notably Mr. A. G. Wood and Mr. J. Outcalt, for interesting details. The development of Church music in the older coun tries has been the work of centuries; we move fast here, and, aided by their experience, have advanced from the crudest beginnings to the highest achievements in about fifty years. My imperfect picture of such development will, it is hoped, prove interesting not only to those who have taken part in the services herein described, but also to Church musicians and Church members generally. This book is published now by former members of Trinity Church Choir who look back with pleasure to their participation in the music of the Church, and retain their kind regard for the old choirmaster.
