Excerpt from History of the Town of Berkeley, Mass At the second town meeting, legally called Oct. 6th, 1735, the town voted to hire a scholar to preach in the town a quarter of a year, and fifty pounds were voted to be raised for his support and other purposes, and it was voted to employ no schoolmaster at present. At an adjourned meeting, Oct. 20th, 1735, voted to send for Mr. Tobey to come and preach one quarter of a year, and John Burt to take the contribution money towards supplying the scholar, i. E.
