When Luke O’Neil isn’t angry, he’s asleep. When he’s awake, he gives vent to some of the most heartfelt, political and anger-fueled prose to power its way to the public sphere since Hunter S. Thompson smashed a typewriter’s keys. Welcome to Hell World is an unexpurgated selection of Luke O’Neil’s finest rants, near-poetic rhapsodies, and investigatory journalism. Racism, sexism, immigration, unemployment, Marcus Aurelius, opioid addiction, Iraq: all are processed through the O’Neil grinder. He details failings in his own life and in those he observes around him: and the result is a book that is at once intensely confessional and an energetic, unforgettable condemnation of American mores. Welcome to Hell World is, in the author’s words, a “fever dream nightmare of reporting and personal essays from one of the lowest periods in our country in recent memory.” It is also a burning example of some of the best writing you’re likely to read anywhere.

Sherwood Forest, home of Oberon, Titania, Puck, Cobweb, Peaseblossom and the rest of the mob, has been whittled away by urban development. It's time to move on, the fairies decide. Sid, their captive, a kindly if gruff young car mechanic, teaches Titania to drive, and on Midsummer's Eve the party sets off in a battered and smelly old bus. They're bound for the New Forest, where they hope to be able to regenerate their magic. The fairies' journey is full of excitement. At a village fair, they show the morris dancers how to cut previously undreamt-of capers. Titania falls in love with a human baby and steals her from her pram, starting a nationwide search for the missing infant. The fairies then link up with a group of New Age travellers on their way to Stonehenge, who befriend them almost without question. Finally, a fight to the death between Titania and the terrifying and sadistic Morgan-le-Fey must take place before everyone can settle down into some form of harmony and peace.

Send Them to Hell is a horrifying, authentic chronicle of life as lived by foreign inmates over the past two decades in Bangkok's notorious prison system. Murder, human-rights abuse, drugs, prisoner and child sex slavery, blackmail, extortion, extreme violence, medical maltreatment, and unjustifiable death penalties feature as everyday occurrences in the living hells that are Bangkwang and Klong Prem jails. Sebastian Williams has graphically revealed this shocking reality through the eyes of a long-term inmate who has endured at first hand the unimaginable, inhuman nightmare that constitutes the Thai penal system.

The coronavirus hit the hospital from out of nowhere. Nobody could have seen it coming or prepared for dealing with it—at least, not in the environment that the hospital staff were forced to practice medicine in. “I am everything, and you are nothing!” screamed Callie, the future Senior Vice President of Patient Affairs, at an audience who were reviewing data showing the spread of the coronavirus and the results of the hospital’s efforts to save the lives of those with the most serious cases. Callie typed something on her computer, and the data disappeared. The audience, composed mostly of doctors and nurses, raised their voices in shock and anger. Callie had only to remind the audience that she could fire them unless they did exactly what she told them to do. The audience quietened down, and those who had been presenting the data were forced from the auditorium, humiliated and dejected because weeks of work had been just deleted. The hospital staff were now blind. They didn’t know how many coronavirus cases they had. They didn’t know how many cases were in the area. They didn’t know how much equipment to order, how many doctors and nurses to hire, or how many beds were available for new cases. What could the hospital do?

Life. This is an area about which man has the greatest knowledge. However it is only a pit stop for the human race. What lies before and beyond this little pit stop is open to heavy debate. In fact most people take birth to be the beginning. Death on the other hand is spoken of as being either a full stop for the person or a continuation of life’s journey to somewhere in the unknown. This has given rise to religion. A set of rules was created to explain the unexplainable and this code of morals governed our journey to either a wondrous existence in Heaven or to the fiery confines of Hell. But this book is not dealing with theology. It relates to History – Egyptian History to be more specific – it is the chronicle of events that unfolded during the reign of King Hatshepsut of the Egyptian Empire almost one thousand five hundred years before the birth of Christ. To understand the ancient Egyptians, we must grasp their concepts of earth, heaven and hell. Their life was ruled by their religion.
