The specifications will be used as the prime basis for licensing purposes, and are designated as standards that are mandatory for licensing or as recommended practices that will normally be followed. The manual begins with definitions of terms and then sets out the specifications in four parts. Part 1 covers physical characteristics including location & orientation, take-off and landing areas, taxiways, aprons, elevated and offshore facilities, and winching areas.
