The Hydrologic Engineering Center, HEC, has several numerical models for simulation of hydrologic and hydraulic processes in urban areas. This paper will focus on new developments and applications procedures for the surface water hydrology models. The primary surface water hydrology model is the HEC-1 Flood Hydrograph Package. It can simulate the precipitation-runoff process in a wide variety of basins, from small urban areas to large river basins. It also has many features which facilitate its application to urban areas. The next generation of HEC-1, termed the NexGen Hydrologic Modeling System, HMS, is currently under development. A new model to analyze flooding in interior areas (e.g. on the land side of a levee) was just released. An older model (STORM) for urban storm water and combined sewer storage and treatment is still used in the profession but not actively supported by HEC These models (primarily HEC-l) will be discussed in relation to urban hydrologic design. Future directions of the Corps new 'Urban Hydrology Methods/Models' research work unit will also be discussed.

A practical introduction on today's challenge of controlling and managing the water resources used by and affected by cities and urbanized communities. The book offers an integrated engineering approach, covering the spectrum of urban watershed management, urban hydraulic systems, and overall stormwater management. Each chapter concludes with helpful problems. Solutions Manual available to qualified professors and instructors upon request. Introduces the reader to two popular, non-proprietary computer-modeling pro-grams: HEC-HMS (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) and SWMM (U.S EPA).

Now in its third edition, "Hydrology and Floodplain Analysis" continues to offer a clear and up-to-date presentation of the fundamental concepts and design methods required to understand hydrology and floodplain analysis. It addresses the computational emphasis of modern hydrology and provides a balanced approach to important applications in watershed analysis, floodplain computation, flood control, urban hydrology, stormwater design, and computer modeling. Includes HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SWMM models plus GIS and radar rainfall. The text is ideal for students taking an undergraduate or graduate course on hydrology, while the practicing engineer should value the book as a modern reference for hydrologic principles, flood frequency analysis, floodplain analysis, computer simulation, and hydrologic storm water design. Updated coverage in the third edition includes: "Three New Chapters" Chapter 1: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Chapter 2: Use of NEXRAD Radar Data Chapter 3: Floodplain Management Issues in Hydrology A new, detailed case study of a complex watershed using GIS linked with radar technology. New tools and technologies used for watershed analysis, hydrologic modeling, and modern floodplain delineation. New examples and homework problems in each chapter.

This paper describes the new version of the HEC-1 Flood Hydrograph Package - a comprehensive simulation model computer program. The many hydrologic and hydraulic simulation capabilities of the model are described. Special emphasis is given to analysis of dam safety and dam failure flood damage studies, and urban hydrology. The general applicability and usage of the model are described. (Author).
