Encore! You'll find this second volume in this series an indispensible cross-reference manual to the music of the 1960's With the British Invasion, the success of Motown, all the way to Woodstock, music, especially rock and roll, went through an amazing transformation creating classics that still sound new and relevant 50 years later. It was the decade that saw the start of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and The Who. It brought us the lyrical styling of Bob Dylan, The Mama's and Papa's and the Doors. It brought us the surf rock of The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean. It arguably was the most important decade in modern music.

Sixty of the best songs of the early rock era, all chosen from Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. The songs are from the 1950s to the '60s, arranged for piano/vocal/chords. Many of these great songs were previously available only as "old-time" sheet music editions that did not accurately portray the classic recordings that made them famous. In preparing this songbook, Alfred Music took great care to revisit those recordings, replacing incorrect arrangements with new ones that allow pianists and singers to perform the songs in the style that landed them on the Rolling Stone 500. Also available: Rolling Stone Sheet Music Classics, Volume 2: 1970s--1990s. Similar editions are available arranged for easy guitar TAB, wind, and string instruments. Songs vary per instrument. Invisible Now describes Bob Dylan's transformative inspiration as artist and cultural figure in the 1960s. Hughes identifies Dylan's creativity with an essential imaginative dynamic, as the singer perpetually departs from a former state of inexpression in pursuit of new, as yet unknown, powers of self-renewal. This motif of temporal self-division is taken as corresponding to what Dylan later referred to as an artistic project of 'continual becoming', and is explored in the book as a creative and ethical principle that underlies many facets of Dylan's appeal. Accordingly, the book combines close discussions of Dylan's mercurial art with related discussions of his humour, voice, photographs, and self-presentation, as well as with the singularities of particular performances. The result is a nuanced account of Dylan's creativity that allows us to understand more closely the nature of Dylan's art, and its links with American culture.
