The first book to celebrate one of the iconic brands of American streetwear. An originator of West Coast street and skate style, FUCT was a cult Los Angeles brand that went on to become one of the most influential American streetwear labels, influencing not only the style but also the graphic and referential approach of countless artists and companies. Driven by the provocative vision of its creator, the artist Erik Brunetti, FUCT’s appeal drew on contemporary skate aesthetics and invoked a situationist slant on brand-oriented consumer culture. Famous for their appropriation of iconic logos, and renowned for collaborations with artists, designers, and companies as diverse as David Mann and Shawn Mortensen, FUCT continues to flirt with controversy as it remains at the forefront of American street fashion and culture. Published to coincide with the brand’s twentieth anniversary, with contributions from icons of the street fashion world such as Aaron Rose and Gary Warnett, this beautifully illustrated, comprehensive volume explores the archives of the brand’s products and advertising, as well as Brunetti’s artwork, sketches, and films that continue to inspire and inform the brand.

The Jenner International Glycoimmunology Meetings have charted the rapid devel opment of glycobiology within the field of inflammation. In less than a decade, the science has grown from basically being involved in carbohydrate analysis to the understanding of how sugars are associated with inflammation and how they have potential as anti inflammatory therapeutics. The 4th Jenner International Glycoimmunology Meeting was re cently held in Loutraki, Greece, and set the scene for what promises to be an exciting future for the speciality. Discussion reflected the rapid advances glycobiology is making and ranged from the basic biochemistry of carbohydrate physiology to therapeutic trials utilizing synthetic sugars designed to block inflammatory responses. The meeting is summarized in considerable detail in this book which will provide the interested scientist and clinician with the essential up-to-date facts within the field of glyco immunology. Acknowledgments Many people have been involved in ensuring the success of the Jenner Glycoimmu nology Meetings but none more so than my secretary Susan Henderson who has borne the brunt of all four meetings and is currently preparing for the 5th.

A comprehensive survey of the topic, ranging from basic molecular research to clinical applications. Critical reviews by leading experts in each field summarize the state of knowledge and discuss the anticipated benefits of novel approaches and strategies. These include the impact of modern analysis techniques on glycobiology, the use of synthetic neoglycoproteins, or the clinical consequences of new insights into the physiological role of lectins and glycoconjugates in pathology, oncology, immunity, neuroscience and reproduction medicine. Throughout, the aim is to separate realistic applications from mere hopes.

In the past decade, there has been an explosion of progress in understanding the roles of carbohydrates in biological systems. This explosive progress was made with the efforts in determining the roles of carbohydrates in immunology, neurobiology and many other disciplines, examining each unique system and employing new technology. This volume represents the second of three in the Methods in Enzymology series, including Glycobiology (vol. 415) and Functional Glycomics (vol. 417), dedicated to disseminating information on methods in determining the biological roles of carbohydrates. These books are designed to provide an introduction of new methods to a large variety of readers who would like to participate in and contribute to the advancement of glycobiology. The methods covered include structural analysis of carbohydrates, biological and chemical synthesis of carbohydrates, expression and determination of ligands for carbohydrate-binding proteins, gene expression profiling including micro array, and generation of gene knockout mice and their phenotype analyses.

An essential component of inflammation is the migration of circulating leukocytes from blood into tissues. This process is characterized by a multistep paradigm of sequential cell adhesion and activation events that lead to the extravasation of specific leukocyte subsets to different tissues in health and disease. The first step of leukocyte extravasation, the rolling of leukocytes, is primarily mediated by the interactions of selectins and their ligands. It has recently become evident that fucosyltransferases are crucial for selectin ligand synthesis, inflammation, and skin homing. This book provides an in-depth overview of the mechanisms of leukocyte trafficking and of the molecular mechanisms of selectin/selectin ligand interactions and discusses options for pharmacological intervention to treat inflammatory diseases.
