Audrey Nelson is planning for her future after graduation, but she has no idea her future contains a swoony summer romance, Internet fame, or a nursing home. Audrey's life has been planned out for her since she was born, and now she's supposed to attend Whedon College in the fall, where both of her parents work. But Audrey has a different plan in mind: She's not going to attend college at all. She's going to earn some money and move to Seattle, the city she's loved since she was a child. And the best way to earn that money is by working the night shift at the local nursing home. Seth O'Malley works there, too, and a romance quickly blossoms between them. But things get complicated when Audrey saves the life of Cameron Suzuki, Seth's ex. A video of her performing CPR at the beach goes viral, and suddenly, Audrey's wanted for TV interviews and newspaper articles. And just when Audrey starts to love life at the nursing home--and life with Seth--Seattle comes knocking. Does she follow the path she set out for herself, even when it means leaving behind Seth and the cast of quirky patients she's come to care for? Or does she embrace a future with Seth--at least for the foreseeable future--at the cost of abandoning her dreams?

Who could have possibly foreseen that the day fifteen-year-old Violet Conti saved a young boy from a rolling cart was the day that would change her life irrevocably? The answer to this question is so much more complicated than even Violet herself could possibly imagine. Set in the 1950s, Foreseen follows its leading lady from rural Italy to London to New York City. On the fateful day that Violet saves the life of an English boy—Edward—she is in turn rescued from the clutches of her abusive father when Edward’s aristocratic parents, the Suttons, hire her to be their young son’s companion. Edward suffers from “nightmares” and is presumed to be mentally disturbed. But one day, Edward reveals to Violet that he has psychic visions. Violet makes him promise to keep it a secret between the two of them in order to protect him from being exploited or labelled a freak. Due to his clairvoyance, Edward is a kind of secret superhero. He foresees Violet encountering a dangerous snake. He anticipates a final love letter in the jacket pocket of a dead soldier’s uniform. Eventually, he divines aspects of Violet’s life she’s not sure she’d like to know about. As Violet grows into a young adult, she struggles to find her place in the Sutton household. Employee or family member? Defenseless child or empowered woman? A story of friendship, self discovery, heroism, and justice, Foreseen asks to what extent our actions determine our future, and asserts that life is best lived when choices are made out of love.

"I have to hide you." Those words, spoken by his mother, changed Jeremiah's life forever. On that windy night, she hid her son successfully from whatever invisible force threatened. The terrified youth watched his mother and father murdered by a mysterious man in a hooded robe, who referred to his mother as "witch." Nothing would ever be the same again. Lost and alone, Jeremiah wanders, searching for meaning behind his parents' untimely deaths. What was his mother afraid of? Why was it important for Jeremiah to hide? The arrival of a beautiful stranger does little to clear the fog, as she explains Jeremiah is part of an ancient prophecy-a prophecy his mother died trying to protect. Now, Jeremiah and his strange new friend must set out on a life-changing journey. They must gather the other children of the prophecy in order to save the world from an evil force threatening to conquer all that is good. Jeremiah will have to travel much further than he can imagine-into the past to find a woman who holds the key to the prophecy and Jeremiah's family secret. His destiny was foreseen long before his birth, but only time will tell if he will be able to stop a powerful enemy, hell-bent on ruling the world.

"As they narrate their lives in these rituals, leaders also give other participants ways to address some of the pressing issues in their own lives. Special emphasis is given to the emotional effects of narrative performances and how these accounts move people to identify with others, compel them to act in appropriate ways, or assuage their grief over a lost loved one. Oakdale analyzes autobiographical performances using insights from studies on ritual, life history, and linguistic anthropology to better understand Kayabi notions of self and person and the role these narrative expressions play in their social life."--BOOK JACKET.

Is prophecy possible? Can some people really see the future? Strange feelings of foreboding are often cited by people as evidence that they "foresaw" a disaster. Too vague, argues Gary Williams in this elegantly written collection about lapses in time and space. Williams covers such topics as prevision and romance, foreknowledge and gambling, and the mysterious links between aviation and seeing into the future. 'A hard- to-put-down, eye-opening must read! The Foreseeable Future: The Mystery of Precognition is the author's fascinating journey exploring precognitive experiences and psychic predictions for insights about the ability. Prepare to discover some psychics really do know what the future holds!' Jane Doherty, author of Awakening The Mystic Gift

People and societies conceptualise and experience time in fundamentally different ways. This basic aspect of perception significantly influences the way we frame problems and conceive solutions. This book shows how time perspectives differ across national cultures and across professional roles. It shows how these differences generate ambiguity when it comes to defining problems and devising solutions in the water sector. This is especially important when dealing with problems such as Sustainable Water Resources Management and Climate Change that involve (culturally and professionally) diverse stakeholders. Response strategies to such problems inherently require concerted action because of the large spatial and temporal scale on which they take place and to minimise the occurrence of conflicting interventions. This disparity between diverse problem perceptions and the need for collective understanding and united action is increasingly recognised as an important concern in the field of water resource management. The conclusions are important because the time horizons considered in planning and setting research agendas influence what problems are perceived, what questions are asked, and what solutions are sought. In general, more time needs to be invested in framing problems. This is particularly important for participatory planning and transdisciplinary research where the diversity in Motivational Space is greatest. It is recommended that Motivational Space be collectively and explicitly framed from the outset of all planning projects, especially in terms of Temporal Extent. When it comes to setting research agendas it is important to match the Motivational Space of those who prioritize the questions with the goal of the research programme.
