In this new and well-written biography Faith Cook relates John Bunyan to the turbulent times through which he lived, surviving two periods of imprisonment in Bedford prison, sustained by his faith, determined, as he himself wrote to live upon God that is invisible. Faith Cook avoids the temptation of merely regarding Bunyan as one of the great figures of English literature. That he certainly is. But he is so much more a physician of souls, much-loved pastor and powerful preacher of the gospel of grace. The authoress skillfully relates her subject to the political history of his times, in which nonconformists won a greater measure of freedom to worship according to their understanding of the Bible during the Cromwellian period, only to be restricted again after the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660.

In a seedy hotel near Ground Zero, a woman lies face down in a pool of acid, features melted of her face, teeth missing, fingerprints gone. The room has been sprayed down with DNA-eradicating antiseptic spray. Pilgrim, the code name for a legendary, world-class segret agent, quickly realizes that all of the murderer's techniques were pulled directly from his own book, a cult classic of forensic science written under a pen name.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize “The book is a form of meditation, written with headlong urgency, about seeing. . . . There is an ambition about her book that I like. . . . It is the ambition to feel.” — Eudora Welty, New York Times Book Review Pilgrim at Tinker Creek is the story of a dramatic year in Virginia's Roanoke Valley, where Annie Dillard set out to chronicle incidents of "beauty tangled in a rapture with violence." Dillard's personal narrative highlights one year's exploration on foot in the Virginia region through which Tinker Creek runs. In the summer, she stalks muskrats in the creek and contemplates wave mechanics; in the fall, she watches a monarch butterfly migration and dreams of Arctic caribou. She tries to con a coot; she collects pond water and examines it under a microscope. She unties a snake skin, witnesses a flood, and plays King of the Meadow with a field of grasshoppers. The result is an exhilarating tale of nature and its seasons.

Milton F. Sanders was born January 24, 1933 in Detroit Michigan, of a Russian immigrant father and a German/American mother. The birth was one month premature and he weighted a whopping 2 and pounds. After 2 weeks in an incubator, he was taken home and placed in his first crib, a top drawer of the bedroom bureau. Three years later he and his older brother and sister lost their parents and were placed in foster homes. Milton spent the next 15 years in 12 different foster homes. After graduating from high school and earning a scholarship to Michigan State University, he was only able to secure finances for one year, and spent the next 25 years working in a variety of sales jobs. He was married 3 times. He has 5 children and one step child. Milton met his third wife Christina in 1973 and they moved from Los Angeles to the Montana/Idaho area where he took a job working as a miner. For 3 years he worked 5,000 feet under ground in the Galina silver mine at Wallace Idaho. Latter he and Christina purchased a local locksmith business, which he made his career for the next 18 years, retiring as Master Locksmith and housing security specialist for The Evergreen State College at Olympia Washington, in 1998. He and his wife chose to spend their final years living in southern Mexico, near the City of Oaxaca. His beloved wife, of 33 years, Christina passed away in 2006 and 7 months later he was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of bladder cancer. After major surgery and 6 months of Chemo-therapy, he is cancer free. He now lives alone in a beautiful country setting surrounded by 100 tropical fruit trees in a 3 bedroom Bungalow on a walled in property. For transportation he has a small Chevy car and a Yamaha motor scooter to get around on for quick trips to the store. For company he has two dogs and a cat. In the tranquil atmosphere of this little bit of paradise he has decided to write essays dealing with what he feels are important spiritual topics that have been his quest for more than five decades.

Faith Cook has been a lover of John Bunyan's work for many years, first encountering him through The Pilgrim's Progress in preschool years. Later she discovered through his 'Complete Works' his many other books and ten years ago she wrote Fearless Pilgrim, a detailed biography of Bunyan. Now she has taken up her pen again to write this well-paced and accessible biography that will appeal to every reader. Inevitably it is more than just a biography: this is a story told so that the Lord Jesus Christ is glorified and the reader can find encouragement for their own pilgrim path. Bunyan suffered in many ways and his own words express best the message this book brings: (God) can make those things that in themselves are most fearful and terrible to behold, the most pleasant, delightful and desirable things. He can make a gaol more beautiful than a palace... He can so sweeten our sufferings with the honey of his word... and make them so easy by the spreading of his feathers over us that we shall not be able to say that in all the world a more comfortable position can be found.
