Electroweak penguin decays provide a promising hunting ground for Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). The decay B 2!X{sub s}[gamma], which proceeds through an electromagnetic penguin loop, already provides stringent constraints on the supersymmetric (SUSY) parameter space. The present data samples of H" x 108 B{bar B} events allow to explore radiative penguin decays with branching fractions of the order of 10−6 or less. In this brief report they discuss a study of B 2!K*ll− decay modes and a search for B 2![rho]([omega])[gamma] decays.

Radiative and electroweak penguin decays of B mesons are flavor-changing-neutral-current processes that provide powerful ways to test the Standard Model at the one-loop level, to search for the effects of new physics, and to extract Standard Model parameters such as CKM matrix elements and quark masses. The large data samples obtained by the B-factory experiments BaBar and Belle, together with an intensive theoretical effort, have led to significant progress towards understanding these rare decays. Recent experimental results include the measurements of the b 2!d[gamma] decays B 2![rho]([omega])[gamma], the observation of B 2!K(*)ll− decays (together with studies of the associated kinematic distributions), and improved measurements of the inclusive B 2!Xs[gamma] rate and photon energy spectrum.

Recent BABAR results on electroweak penguin and leptonic decays are reviewed. In particular, the measurements of B {yields} K{sup (*)}l{sup +}l{sup -} and the preliminary results on B {yields} X{sub s}l{sup +}l{sup -} are presented. Also summarized are the preliminary limits on B{sup +} {yields} l{sup +}{nu} (l = e, {mu}) and B{sup +} {yields} K{sup +}{nu}{bar {nu}}.

This dissertation describes the search for the flavor-changing neutral current decays B → Kll− and B → K*(892)l+l−, performed using a sample of (22.7 ± 0.4) x 106?(4S) → B {bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory. The following final states have been reconstructed: B+ → K+l+l−, B° → K°l+l− (K{sub s}° →?+?−), B+ → K*+l+l− (K*+ → K{sub s}°?+), and B° → K*°l+l− (K*° → K+?−), where l+l−is either an e+e− or?+?− pair. The established 90% C.L. upper limits are:?(B → Kl+l−)
