Excerpt from Everything for the Fruit Grower Description. Q A vigorous grower, exceeding any Apple known to horticulturists for rapid growth. Of symmetrical form, never needing to be pruned while shaping the head; branches heavily shouldered, making the tree absolutely wind and storm proof Fruit large, oblong, flattened at ends, red and green when picked, green turning to rich golden yellow as the fruit comes into season for use. Stem long, thus enabling the fruit to sway with the wind and to adhere firmly until picking time. Calyx large, basin open, deep-furrowed; flesh yellowish marbled, tender, juicy, improving with age, and highly aromatic. Season for use, March to September. Keeps twelve months in any cellar. Important. At each of the Annual Meetings for the years 1897, 1898 and 1899, the Illi nois State Horticultural Society awarded the Missing Link Apple the first premium as the best new Apple worthy to be recommended. See reports of Committees on Awards, Class 1, in each Annual Report for the years above named. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Everything for the Fruit-Grower: Price-List, Fall 1900 This is not only a pleasant occupation, but if intelligently and persistently followed, is also a sure road to wealth. If the average farmer would devote from 10 to 20 acres to Nut culture, giving proper attention to it, he would achieve independence in a few years, escaping the ordi nary labor of the farm. We have accounts of single trees paying from $25 to $50, and many cases are noted where an acre clears from $150 to $600 annually. It was a wise man who said* Plant a tree it will be growing while you are sleeping. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Fruit-Growers Guide-Book This little book has been prepared as a means of assisting many persons who have answered the call "back to the land," and who are undertaking the growing of fruit on a commercial scale. It is not intended as an exhaustive treatise on fruit growing, as such is manifestly impossible within the size of such a book. Neither is it expected to tell all that is to be told about fruit growing. Its purpose is to serve for the guidance of the beginner and as a handy reference manual for the busy orchardist. The foundation upon which this little book is based is the many letters which reach the office of The Fruit-Grower, containing inquiries about many phases of fruit-growing. These inquiries come from all parts of the United States and from Canada, and cover almost every phase of horticultural work, although in preparing this book only the general problem of growing the ordinary deciduous orchard fruits has been considered. This problem has been considered in a very general way without specific directions for any particular fruit. Where details for a given fruit have been needed, the treatment of the subject has been boiled down to as concise a form as possible.
