This book is the end product of ten years of exploration that began with a series of three small guide-books written to help El Yunque National Forest visitors to discover and identify some of the forest's many ecological marvels. These small reference books included descriptions of 57 individual tree species. Between 2010 and 2012, a monthly El Yunquer NF website feature 'Endemic Plant Facts' amassed an additonal 26 indigenous tree descriptions. Combining this significant collection of 83 specific portrayals (accompanied by full-color photos and illustrations) into a single, portable guide-book, similar to its predecessor 'The Animals of El Yunque', that would fit easily into a jacket-pocket or book-bag, and available as an 'e-book' and 'Smartphone App' seemed like a sensible idea. The end result, 'The Trees of El Yunque' is a 'pictorial natural history' - it is not a comprehensive listing of every species of flora that occurs in El Yunque - instead, it is an effort to present a discrete selection of trees that forest visitors might encounter and thus wish to identify while experiencing El Yunque's unique and exhilarating surroundings. Tropical forest enthusiasts and natural history 'buffs' should also be fascinated to discover the immense diversity of the flora described and pictured on these pages - all of which thrive in El Yunque; America's only tropical rainforest...

The New York Times bestselling "master" (Stephen King) of American thriller writing returns with an electrifying new novel about a mother seeking to reconnect with her children after a terrible trial tears their family apart. Nina Morgan’s bloodstained car was found a decade ago on a lonely Florida road. Forensic evidence suggested she’d been murdered, although her body was never found. Her disappearance left her infant children to the care of their father. Once a pilot, mother, wife, and witness to a gruesome crime, Nina had to flee her old life to save her family. She reinvented herself as Leah Trenton, a guide in the Allagash Wilderness in northern Maine. She never expected to see her children again, but now tragedy has returned them to her—only they have no idea that she’s their mother—and delivered all of them back into danger. “Aunt Leah” will need some help, and an old ally has a suggestion: an enigmatic young hitman named Dax Blackwell. Never Far Away is a thrilling collision between old sins and new dreams, where the wills and ingenuity of a broken family will be tested against all odds.

This sweet author-illustrator debut celebrates imagination, the magic of friendship, and all the different ways we make a new place feel like home. For Ren, home is his grandmother's little house, and the lush forest that surrounds it. Home is a place of magic and wonder, filled with all the fantastical friends that Ren dreams up. Home is where his imagination can run wild. For Ava, home is a brick and cement city, where there's always something to do or see or hear. Home is a place bursting with life, where people bustle in and out like a big parade. Home is where Ava is never lonely because there's always someone to share in her adventures. When Ren moves to Ava's city, he feels lost without his wild. How will he ever feel at home in a place with no green and no magic, where everything is exactly what it seems? Of course, not everything in the city is what meets the eye, and as Ren discovers, nothing makes you feel at home quite like a friend. Inspired by the stories her father told her about moving from Puerto Rico to New York as a child, Zara González Hoang's author-illustrator debut is an imaginative exploration of the true meaning of "home."

A classic of northern exploration and adventure, LAST PLACES is Lawrence Millman's marvelously told account of his journey along the ancient Viking sea routes that extend from Norway to Newfoundland. Traveling through landscapes of transcendent desolation, Millman wandered by way of the Shetland Islands, the Faeroes, Iceland, Greenland, and Labrador. His way was marked by surprising human encounters--with a convicted murderer in Reykjavik, an Inuit hermit in Greenland, an Icelandic guide who leads him to a place called Hell, and a Newfoundlander who warns him about the local variant of the Abominable Snowman. By turns earthy and lyrical, LAST PLACES is an ebullient celebration of the exotic North.

This book is the end product of ten years of investigation. What began as a monthly 'Wildlife Facts' feature for the El Yunque National Forest's website in January, 2002 eventually comprised over 100 individual descriptions and full color illustrations of El Yunque rainforest animals. It seemed a natural progression to convert this remarkable collection into a 'portable' guide-book that would fit easily into a jacket-pocket or book bag... The Animals of El Yunque is a 'pictorial natural history' - it is not a comprehensive listing of every wildlife species that occurs in El Yunque - instead, it is an effort to describe a discrete selection of the animals that forest visitors might encounter and thus wish to identify while experiencing El Yunque's unique and exhilarating surroundings. Tropical forest enthusiasts and natural history 'buffs' will also be fascinated to discover the immense diversity of the animal populations that are described and pictured in full color on these pages - all of which thrive in El Yunque; America's only tropical rainforest...
