Download A Daymare of Violence Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
In my story, I cover my idyllic childhood at home, protected under my mother's wing, where I simply existed in a state of bliss. This was before the age of six. At six years of age, I attended primary school and my whole world changed. I woke up to a world of fear, anxiety and trepidation. My daymares began and remained with me throughout my primary school days. Corporal punishment was allowed at our primary school and my teacher took full advantage. I was just a short time at school when I was beaten for the first time. I went into shock and I clammed up. I retreated into myself and I became a very sad and quiet little girl. I could not understand mental arithmetic and because of this and, instead of being patient and teaching me, my teacher beat me. This was a regular occurrence. I never spoke up about this at home. School was school and home was home, they lived side by side but they never merged. The poor treatment I received during my primary school years and the impact this abuse had on me affected my self-esteem and confidence for a very long time. I spent most of my life building myself up and making myself into the strong person that I am today.

Ever since Luci started experiencing daymares, she has relied on photography to discern reality from hallucination. That’s why the new camera she receives for her sweet sixteen birthday is perfect for the mother-daughter road trip to the hot spring. Or at least it was perfect until the camera was all she had left. A car accident leaves Luci stranded on a northern highway and her mother missing. Luci doesn’t understand why her face was on that billboard. She knows that the fog is too thick to see anything, including the cliff edge where the car stopped. Her camera helps her navigate once more, but this time she finds an eerily beautiful woman who propels Luci into a parallel world. What she thought was the Rocky Mountains is now a strange world made of river sharks, Memegwaans, building-sized flowers, underwater houses, and a labyrinth. Luci must navigate this new world to find her mother, complete three trials to open the exit and try to understand some darker secret before the foreboding plane of existence, Obscura, and a dehumanized woman dig their claws into Luci.

A young widow is haunted by the past in this “fast paced . . . hauntingly original” thriller from the New York Times–bestselling author of The Art Forger (Mystery News). After the tragic death of her husband of less than two years, Lindsey sells her house in the suburbs and moves into a renovated townhouse in the city, only to discover that an earlier tenant—over one hundred years earlier—apparently still lives on the premises. Lindsey wants to start over, but she is haunted by her past, by unfathomable guilt—and perhaps by a ghost. Shattered Echoes is a psychological thriller about murder, madness, and the supernatural in Boston’s historic Back Bay.
