Chapter 18: Old Headmaster A scoundrel will always remain a scoundrel. He cannot become a gentleman in just one day. Even though his face was sad and sad, in the end he was just a sad and sad scoundrel. Cao Thang Nam looked at Diep Hoan angrily. At this moment, she had the intention to pull out the gun again... Diep Hoan looked at Cao Thang Nam's angry face but was very worried, awkwardly said: "What's wrong?" When you're full, you'll have strength to fight, right?" Cao Thang Nam took a deep breath. Forget it, don't compare yourself with this type of person. Advertisement Hou Tu looked at Diep Hoan admiringly: "Through admiring the hero. Damn it! Hoan, you are so cool. I watched the news today, it was 1 against 3. Besides that, they are also BOSS level robbers. If this is in the game, it will definitely fall into a pile of good equipment. One guy was KO'd, one guy was barely alive, one guy was in a coma. But Mr. Hoan, did they throw your child into the well or something..." "They stole my money." Having played together since we were little, as soon as we heard that, Hau Tu immediately spanked his thigh. “No wonder... So you're relenting. It's just 1 guy. Mr. Hoan's kindness is unrivaled in the world." Diep Hoan nodded slightly, clasped his hands and stood in the wind, looking like a lonely master...

As soon as he graduated high school, Wink jumped head first into the drug game. He hardened his heart and did whatever he had to in order to rise through the ranks. In The Re-Up, Wink takes things to the next level. His father plugs him in with a cocaine pipeline from prison. Soon, Wink is at the top of his game, handling enough cocaine to supply the entire Midwest. But he will learn, just as hustlers before him have, that every run has its end. Wink takes us along for a shotgun ride to the top of the underworld--the money, the fast cars, the power...and the demise. In these closing chapters, the game throws everything it has to offer at Wink. Will he survive the treachery and betrayal, the addiction, and the lure of fast money? Or will Wink plan his own ending?

“Enthralling.… Seymour powerfully evokes the world from which Rhys never really escaped, one of prejudice, abuse, and abuse’s shamefaced offspring, complicity.” —James Wood, The New Yorker An intimate, profoundly moving biography of Jean Rhys, acclaimed author of Wide Sargasso Sea. Jean Rhys is one of the most compelling writers of the twentieth century. Memories of her Caribbean girlhood haunt the four short and piercingly brilliant novels that Rhys wrote during her extraordinary years as an exile in 1920s Paris and later in England, a body of fiction—above all, the extraordinary Wide Sargasso Sea—that has a passionate following today. And yet her own colorful life, including her early years on the Caribbean island of Dominica, remains too little explored, until now. In I Used to Live Here Once, Miranda Seymour sheds new light on the artist whose proud and fiercely solitary life profoundly informed her writing. Rhys experienced tragedy and extreme poverty, alcohol and drug dependency, romantic and sexual turmoil, all of which contributed to the “Rhys woman” of her oeuvre. Today, readers still intuitively relate to her unforgettable characters, vulnerable, watchful, and often alarmingly disaster-prone outsiders; women with a different way of moving through the world. And yet, while her works often contain autobiographical material, Rhys herself was never a victim. The figure who emerges for Seymour is cultured, self-mocking, unpredictable—and shockingly contemporary. Based on new research in the Caribbean, a wealth of never-before-seen papers, journals, letters, and photographs, and interviews with those who knew Rhys, I Used to Live Here Once is a luminous and penetrating portrait of a fascinatingly elusive artist.

When Music Migrates uses rich material to examine the ways that music has crossed racial faultlines that have developed in the post-Second World War era as a consequence of the movement of previously colonized peoples to the countries that colonized them. This development, which can be thought of in terms of diaspora, can also be thought of as postmodern in that it reverses the modern flow which took colonizers, and sometimes settlers, from European countries to other places in the world. Stratton explores the concept of ’song careers’, referring to how a song is picked up and then transformed by being revisioned by different artists and in different cultural contexts. The idea of the song career extends the descriptive term ’cover’ in order to examine the transformations a song undergoes from artist to artist and cultural context to cultural context. Stratton focuses on the British faultline between the post-war African-Caribbean settlers and the white Britons. Central to the book is the question of identity. For example, how African-Caribbean people have constructed their identity in Britain can be considered through an examination of when ’Police on My Back’ was written and how it has been revisioned by Lethal Bizzle in its most recent iteration. At the same time, this song, written by the Guyanese migrant Eddy Grant for his mixed-race group The Equals, crossed the racial faultline when it was picked up by the punk-rock group, The Clash. Conversely, ’Johnny Reggae’, originally a pop-ska track written about a skinhead by Jonathan King and performed by a group of studio artists whom King named The Piglets, was revisioned by a Jamaican studio group called The Roosevelt Singers. After this, the character of Johnny Reggae takes on a life of his own and appears in tracks by Jamaican toasters as a Rastafarian. Johnny’s identity is, then, totally transformed. It is this migration of music that will appeal not only to those studying popular music, but
