Carroll Borland is the legendary star of early cinema, who's portrayal of "Luna" opposite Bela Lugosi in the 1935 motion picture horror classic, "Mark of the Vampire," indelibly etched in the minds of moviegoers the "look, the style and the sexuality of female vampires for generations to come." How did Bela Lugosi inspire the writing of the legendary sequel to Bram Stoker's Dracula? What was the true story behind the infamous "incest scene" rumored to have been cut from "Mark of the Vampire," starring Carroll and Bela? Was Carroll Borland visited by the ghost of Bela Lugosi? What was the secret of their relationship? Learn the answers in Gregory Mank's compelling account of Carroll's life and film career.

The story you know... with a twist. When Lillian Harker visits Transylvania to assist a countess with purchasing an estate in London, she learns some astonishing secrets: the countess is a centuries-old vampire, and Lillian is a prisoner in her castle. Dracula descends upon England, determined to create more of her kind. The only thing standing between the countess and her victims are a small group of unlikely friends-Mina Murray, Lillian's quick-witted fiance; Jenesis Seward, a doctor at a lunatic asylum; Abrienne Van Helsing, a Dutch professor; Quincey Morris, an American hunter; and Arta Holmwood, an English noblewoman. As they race to save their loved ones and find a way to defeat the vampire, these unfortunate souls confront powers they don't understand and a cunning countess who predicts their moves at every turn. The hunt is on. An adaptation of the original text from Dracula by Bram Stoker, this book explores a familiar story through a new lens, celebrating diverse backgrounds by including female and LGBTQ+ characters.

The central character, Count Dracula, is the most famous vampire in the history of literature. In creating the character, Stoker is said to have been inspired by Vlad III Drăculea. Eleanor of Schwarzenberg of Bohemia may also have served as inspiration for Stoker's novel, as she was seen as a vampire by the people. However, there is no evidence for this legend, nor are there any corresponding passages in Stoker's notes. A possible source of inspiration for Stoker could also have been the noblewoman Elisabeth Báthory, a convicted serial killer, known as the "Blood Countess". Gröls Classics - English Edition

They had more in common than just a scream, whether they faced Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Mummy, Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde, King Kong, the Wolf Man, or any of the other legendary Hollywood monsters. Some were even monsters themselves, such as Elsa Lanchester as the Bride, and Gloria Holden as Dracula's Daughter. And while evading the Strangler of the Swamp, former Miss America Rosemary La Planche is allowed to rescue her leading man. This book provides details about the lives and careers of 21 of these cinematic leading ladies, femmes fatales, monsters, and misfits, putting into perspective their contributions to the films and folklore of Hollywood terror--and also the sexual harassment, exploitation, and genuine danger they faced on the job. In a previously unpublished account, Bride of Frankenstein's Anne Darling remembers when, at age 17, she was humiliated on-set by director James Whale over the color of her underwear. Filled with anecdotes and recollections, many of the entries are based on original interviews, and there are numerous old photographs and movie stills.
