Israel Washburn, Jr., Chairman of the Committee of Publication, and the issue, meantime, of the third volume of the Documentary series containing the Trelawny Papers. On account of the large number of papers which had accumulated, the Committee have thought it inexpedient to begin with this volume the publi cation of the Proceedings of the Society, and they have therefore made it the ninth volume of the Collections instead of the first volume of a new series. It is, of course, to be understood that the writers of the papers are alone responsible for the views which they advance.
