C. Nott, of Mobile, in 1832, with the effect of affording permanent relief. Dr. W. A. Mcdowell, of Fincastle, Virginia, in 1827, successfully removed about seven inches of the sixth and seventh ribs of a scrofulous female, detaching them at their articulation with the spine.
