Margaritas, spicy guacamole—and murder—are among this year’s preparations for Cinco de Mayo in the second Santa Fe Café mystery novel. Tres Amigas Café chef Rita Lafitte is busy baking her green chile soufflés and chocolate flans for Cinco de Mayo. If only her friend Linda, the daughter of Rita’s octogenarian boss Flori, could get into the festive spirit. Linda’s cart, Tia Tamales, is losing business to Crepe Empire, the hottest food cart in Santa Fe. Napoleon, Crepe Empire’s owner, is a pompous, celebrity chef who wants to squeeze out the competition. But when Linda gets into a heated argument with Napoleon and his corpse is later found stabbed and pinned beneath the wheels of her tamale cart, she becomes the number one suspect. Determined to prove Linda’s innocence, Rita investigates. From Napoleon’s disgruntled former employees to a shady health inspector, the list of suspects is longer than Flori’s strings of dried chili peppers. And when another corpse surfaces, Rita must scramble to find an elusive killer with an appetite for murder…

Tex-Mex waitress and part-time reporter Josie Callahan serves up more Lone Star justice in this spicy mystery from the author of The Good, the Bad, and the Guacamole. It's fiesta time in Broken Boot, Texas, and tourists are pouring into town faster than free beer at a bull roping for the mouthwatering Cinco de Mayo festivities. Tex-Mex waitress Josie Callahan, her feisty abuela, and even her spunky Chihuahua Lenny are polishing their folklórico dances for Saturday's big parade, while Uncle Eddie is adding his own spicy event to the fiesta menu: Broken Boot's First Annual Charity Chili Cook-off. But Uncle Eddie's hopes of impressing the town council go up in smoke when cantankerous chili cook Lucky Straw is found dead in his tent. And when Josie's beloved uncle is accused of fatal negligence, she, Lenny, and the steadfast Detective Lightfoot must uncover who ended the ambitious chilihead's life--before another cook kicks the bucket.

Zombies, deadly chipmunks, tacos, and an out of control infection. So, reality, but funnier. Sid Singleton came to the El Coyote Gordo hoping for decent tacos and salsa fresca worthy of the name. Instead, he found zombies as zombie as any zombie ever zombied. Now it’s up to him to find every last staggering flesh-eating fiend in the surrounding Coyote National Forest in order to stop this local infection from making the world into a great big apocalypse enchilada. A grande burrito of a novel seasoned with snarky wit and unforgettable characters, it is book one in a series full of zombies, deadly chipmunks, and dark humor. Fans of Zombieland and John Dies at the End this is just your cup of infected gore! A tasty sample: I made it out to the parking lot in time to see the dishwasher pedaling away on his bike followed by a gruesome sombrero’d silhouette. Against the parking lot light, the tassels of that big sombrero dangled in time with the left forearm hanging by only a few stretched tendons from the place where the cook’s cleaver had chopped it. I heard his soccer dad sneakers scraping the pavement in dead bass notes under the receding high-pitched squeaks of the dishwasher’s bicycle chain. I wondered, would I see any sign of that cool soccer camping Dad demeanor if I looked in his eyes. I saw no difference in his behavior. From here, he was all zombie, no dad.

Memoir, bilingual edition. Renowned Chicano author Sabine Ulibarri, born in New Mexico in 1919, presents in his "veteran's memoir" of World War II the story of his experiences as a ball-turret gunner. Initially resistant to enlisting and determined to sit out the war while obtaining a law degree, Ulibarri's growing sense of duty compelled him to join the US Army Air Force. "What we were ready to fight for, suffer for, die for, was our Hispanic way of life". As a combat flier he was one of the elite, but a grueling tour of duty brought him face to face with hysteria, fear, and the seductive power of violence and destruction. Reentering civilian life he rose to prominence as a university professor, civic leader, fiction writer and critic, while continuing to suffer the stress-related effects of combat fatigue throughout his life.
