On a lonely desert road, a woman hears the voice of her dead child calling out to her, but no one is near. Across the country, a psychic tells a bereaved mother that her child lives, though she believed him to be lost in the wreckage of a car crash many years ago. And one day on a playground, a ten-year-old girl glimpses the image of her deceased twin brother, beckoning to her. As three grieving families find themselves haunted by the voices of their dead children, they come to learn that their children are not dead, as they believed, but have been taken and hidden away at a remote compound, to be used for a single, lethal purpose. To find their children and discover the truth, the parents embark on treacherous journeys that will take them to the very heart of evil, where three frightened children are crying out for help. Can they save them before their innocence becomes a weapon for deadly psychic evil? PRAISE: "Hear the Children Calling is a tension-filled tale that pits parents against seemingly unconquerable opponents. Driven by their love for the children, these individuals are determined to face skepticism and even death to find and rescue their missing offspring—children held hostage by a staggering conspiracy that requires a direct physical confrontation to be defeated. An unusual work of eerie power,Hear the Children Calling is an engrossing horror/thriller that is decidedly different." —Rave Reviews (Four-star review)

This volume of essays, dedicated to Stan and Ruth Burgess, has been written by their colleagues and students to honor them as they retire after many years of distinguished service to Evangel University, Southwest Missouri State University, and Regent University. Several meanings can be subsumed under the title Children of the Calling. Stan and Ruth grew up in India, children of Pentecostal missionaries who felt they had "divine callings." They were influenced not only by the religious callings of their parents, but also by the cultural milieu of India. Though they did not personally take on board the specific missionary calling of their parents, they charted life maps that benefitted from the cross-cultural proficiencies developed in their childhoods in India, which to a large extent colored the influence they would have on their children, academic colleagues, and students, some of whom have submitted essays for this Festschrift. The diversity of subjects in this volume attests to the breadth of the scholarly work of Stan and Ruth Burgess. The first section narrates the major highlights of Stan and Ruth's academic biographies, the second presents pioneering studies of biblical studies and church history, and the third offers application-based research and personal reminiscences.

Their mission was almost completed. Spoke President George W. Bush in the memorial service for the shuttle crew of Columbia STS 107 when these seven astronauts were lost on re-entry on that bright clear morning of February 8, 2003. The world watched and re-watched the havoc in the sky over Texas as before their eyes the space ship disintegrated. They were so close to home. They had done their work and were looking forward to being re-united with their loved ones. *** The gospel mission is almost completed. The Savior gave His followers the command to go to all the earth. Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19, 20 Good News Bible. This is what this book is about. These are stories of those who have heard, how they respond and how we are accomplishing The Mission. It is hoped that the reader will recognize just how you have been led by the Holy Spirit to fulfill your gospel commission.

Children Of His Calling is a study based upon the Apostle Peter's words penned to struggling Christians who had left their former way of life to follow Jesus. Imagine being engrossed in a certain culture and belief for years. Yourself, your family, friends, and livelihood are all entrenched in an acceptable way of doing things. Life is status quo and as far as you are concerned, friction with those you associate is minimal. There are expectations set by tradition. You are comfortable and seem to fit in well. Belief and tradition co-mingle with culture. Then, God abruptly changes your heart, He opens your eyes to His truths. You see things differently; you are no longer comfortable with what was once acceptable. You begin questioning practices, some things do not seem quite right. The customs you adhered to then, now seem pointless, even misleading, and disingenuous. You doubt what you have believed, what you have 'bought into' for so many years. As you begin to ask questions or point out discrepancies, you experience negative reactions from those close to you, raised eyebrows, disapproval, and the threat of alienation. It would be easier to suppress the Truth, pick up where you left off and pretend things are okay. It can be tempting to try and subdue or disregard your growing desire to follow Jesus. You realize there is a cost involved in leaving what you have known, what you have been taught, what you have followed, and that which is popular. You hear whispered words such as traitor; there are accusations of being disrespectful to family tradition, you are branded as a troublemaker. This scenario was understood a few thousand years ago, and it is well understood today. The same words of encouragement from the Apostle Peter to those who had been called from their former way of life to follow Christ, are also words of encouragement for many now. Peter reminded believers they have a living hope far more valuable than anything they have left behind. The trials they face are temporary, their loss of acceptance small, when compared to the lasting value of eternal salvation. Do you feel the pull of God's hand on your heart and in your soul? Do you find yourself continually drawn towards considering the truths in the Bible? God has chosen you for obedience, to be the recipient of His grace. Jesus died for the sins of all mankind, to purchase a place in heaven for those who place their trust in Him alone. He has showered His mercy upon you, not giving you what you deserve, but rather desiring to bless you with the inheritance of heaven. Look around you, the gulf between Godly thinking and worldly acceptance is widening. It is true, standing for the Truth of the Gospel may alienate you from popular culture. However, standing for the Truth of the Gospel will afford you a purpose in Christ which will last through eternity. Are you prepared to focus on the confidence of your future in heaven, the value you have in Christ, and the purpose He has ordained for your life in Him?
