CALCULUS I WITH PRECALCULUS, developed for one-year courses, is ideal for instructors who wish to successfully bring students up to speed algebraically within precalculus and transition them into calculus. The Larson Calculus program has a long history of innovation in the calculus market. It has been widely praised by a generation of students and professors for its solid and effective pedagogy that addresses the needs of a broad range of teaching and learning styles and environments. Each title is just one component in a comprehensive calculus course program that carefully integrates and coordinates print, media, and technology products for successful teaching and learning. Two primary objectives guided the authors in writing this book: to develop precise, readable materials for students that clearly define and demonstrate concepts and rules of calculus and to design comprehensive teaching resources for instructors that employ proven pedagogical techniques and saves the instructor time. Precalculus is adaptable and designed to fit the needs of a variety of precalculus courses. It is a comprehensive text that covers more ground than a typical one- or two-semester college-level precalculus course. The content is organized by clearly-defined learning objectives, and includes worked examples that demonstrate problem-solving approaches in an accessible way. Coverage and Scope Precalculus contains twelve chapters, roughly divided into three groups. Chapters 1-4 discuss various types of functions, providing a foundation for the remainder of the course. Chapter 1: Functions Chapter 2: Linear Functions Chapter 3: Polynomial and Rational Functions Chapter 4: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions Chapters 5-8 focus on Trigonometry. In Precalculus, we approach trigonometry by first introducing angles and the unit circle, as opposed to the right triangle approach more commonly used in College Algebra and Trigonometry courses. Chapter 5: Trigonometric Functions Chapter 6: Periodic Functions Chapter 7: Trigonometric Identities and Equations Chapter 8: Further Applications of Trigonometry Chapters 9-12 present some advanced Precalculus topics that build on topics introduced in chapters 1-8. Most Precalculus syllabi include some of the topics in these chapters, but few include all. Instructors can select material as needed from this group of chapters, since they are not cumulative. Chapter 9: Systems of Equations and Inequalities Chapter 10: Analytic Geometry Chapter 11: Sequences, Probability and Counting Theory Chapter 12: Introduction to Calculus

This is the last of three volumes that, together, give an exposition of the mathematics of grades 9–12 that is simultaneously mathematically correct and grade-level appropriate. The volumes are consistent with CCSSM (Common Core State Standards for Mathematics) and aim at presenting the mathematics of K–12 as a totally transparent subject. This volume distinguishes itself from others of the same genre in getting the mathematics right. In trigonometry, this volume makes explicit the fact that the trigonometric functions cannot even be defined without the theory of similar triangles. It also provides details for extending the domain of definition of sine and cosine to all real numbers. It explains as well why radians should be used for angle measurements and gives a proof of the conversion formulas between degrees and radians. In calculus, this volume pares the technicalities concerning limits down to the essential minimum to make the proofs of basic facts about differentiation and integration both correct and accessible to school teachers and educators; the exposition may also benefit beginning math majors who are learning to write proofs. An added bonus is a correct proof that one can get a repeating decimal equal to a given fraction by the “long division” of the numerator by the denominator. This proof attends to all three things all at once: what an infinite decimal is, why it is equal to the fraction, and how long division enters the picture. This book should be useful for current and future teachers of K–12 mathematics, as well as for some high school students and for education professionals.

Building off the success of Zill and Dewar's popular Precalculus with Calculus Previews, Fourth Edition, the new Expanded Volume includes all the outstanding features and learning tools found in the original text while incorporating additional coverage that some courses may require. With a continued aim to keep the text complete, yet concise, the authors added three additional chapters making the text a clear choice for many mainstream courses. New chapters include: Triangle Trigonometry, Systems of Equations and Inequalities, and Sequences and Series. This student-friendly, four-color text offers numerous exercise sets and examples to aid in students' learning and understanding, and graphs and figures throughout serve to better illuminate key concepts. The exercise sets include engaging problems that focus on algebra, graphing, and function theory, the sub-text of so many calculus problems. The authors are careful to use the terminology of calculus in an informal and comprehensible way to facilitate the student's successful transition into future calculus courses.

Taalman’s Calculus I with Integrated Precalculus helps students with weak mathematical backgrounds be successful in the calculus sequence, without retaking a precalculus course. Taalman’s innovative text is the only book to interweave calculus with precalculus and algebra in a manner suitable for math and science majors— not a rehashing or just-in-time review of precalculus and algebra, but rather a new approach that uses a calculus-level toolbox to examine the structure and behavior of algebraic and transcendental functions. This book was written specifically to tie in with the material covered in Taalman/Kohn Calculus. Students who begin their calculus sequence with Calculus I with Integrated Precalculus can easily continue on to Calculus II using the Taalman/Kohn text.

"Precalculus is intended for college-level precalculus students. Since precalculus courses vary from one institution to the next, we have attempted to meet the needs of as broad an audience as possible, including all of the content that might be covered in any particular course. The result is a comprehensive book that covers more ground than an instructor could likely cover in a typical one- or two-semester course; but instructors should find, almost without fail, that the topics they wish to include in their syllabus are covered in the text. Many chapters of OpenStax College Precalculus are suitable for other freshman and sophomore math courses such as College Algebra and Trigonometry; however, instructors of those courses might need to supplement or adjust the material. OpenStax will also be releasing College Algebra and Algebra and trigonometry titles tailored to the particular scope, sequence, and pedagogy of those courses."--Preface.
