The earliest known Brown ancestors were two brothers and two sisters who emigrated from Germany and settled in Pine Grove Township, Schuykill County, Pennsylvania. One of the children of these original emigrants was John Brown (d.1838) who married a Miss Crowl and was the father of nine children. He and his family evenetually settled Indiana. Other Browns remained in Pennsylvania and descendants live in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and other parts of the United States.

William died 28 May 1837 in Pennsylvania. Their descendants have lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Texas, and other areas throughout the United States.
