The asphaltic concrete is an essential material for flexible pavement construction. Its behaviour is however so complicated, especially the behaviour depended on the change of temperature and/or stain rate. The pavement design of Thailand has been still based on the standard of foreign countries. In fact most of them were created and developed based on the database observed under their environments. Those databases and methods from foreign countries may not be suitable to the condition of Thailand thereby this research focuses on the asphaltic concrete behaviour under the various temperatures and the changing rates which relate to the environment in the tropical countries such as Thailand. This study consists of two main parts which are to study the asphaltic concrete behaviour based on the laboratory test and to analyse the test result and then to model the asphaltic concrete behaviour. The former is composed of four tests which are the static and the cyclic indirect tensile tests and the static and the cyclic unconfined compress tests. All test results are analysed using the conventional pavement engineering method such as analyses result employing the time-temperature superposition. By all results of analysis they can be next used to produce the database for the road design in Thailand. The later studied the behaviour of asphaltic concrete can be used to validate the constitutive model based on the hyperplasticsity theory. The main feature of this theory is that it enables to define the constitutive law by setting the potential energy equation and the flow potential equation. This constitutive model also relies on the kinematic hardening plasticity and the rate-dependent plasticity principle. Following this study both the model and the parameters can be future benefits to numerical application in the pavement analysis and design.

Analysis of Pavement Structures brings together current research and existing knowledge on the analysis and design of pavements and introduces load and thermal stress analyses of asphalt and concrete pavement structures in a simple and step-by-step manner. For the second edition of this book, a new chapter on numerical implementation (using FEM) of pavement analysis is added along with topics such as mechanical modeling of granular materials, applications of convolution theorems in visco-elasticity, visco-elastic Poisson’s ratio, concepts of fracture mechanics in relation to fatigue of asphalt mix, solution of semi-infinite and so forth. New solved examples and schematic diagrams are also added. Features: Presents a simple, step-by-step approach for pavement analysis including systematic compilation of research work in the area Discusses further elaborations in terms of extended analytical formulations on some selected topics Includes new chapter on finite element analysis for pavement structures Contains more solved examples to understand the concepts better Explores primary application of pavement analysis in pavement thickness design This book is aimed at graduate students, structural mechanics researchers, and senior undergraduate students in civil/pavement/highway/transport engineering.

The Building sector requires a conspicuous considerable amount of energy for services related to annual air-conditioning and the thermal comfort of indoor spaces. The design of highly efficient low-energy buildings is often a challenging task, especially rranean area, where the balanced requirement for heating and cooling energy does not usually permit a high level of envelope insulation in order to avoid summer overheating. This topical Special Issue of Energies is dedicated to “High Efficient Buildings in Mediterranean Area: Challenges and Perspectives” and collects studies related to the assessment and evaluation of systems and technologies for building energy management and control in the Mediterranean climate, with the aim of optimizing the building–plant system and reducing energy use. This collection of papers presents the latest research results related to the topic; these articles offer valuable insights into the energy simulation of highly efficient buildings, propose innovative envelope solutions, such as green roofs, Trombe walls, and PCM, and investigate the use of renewable sources such as photovoltaic systems. The topics also include the innovative use and control of Venetian blinds and fixed solar shades in order to reduce energy consumption and preserve visual comfort, as well as an interesting economic analysis based on the cost-optimal approach.in the Mediterranean area, where usually the balanced requirement for heating and cooling energy does not usually permit a high level of envelope insulation, in order to avoid summer overheating.
