Many Christians are not familiar with ancient Jewish customs, and so they can sometimes miss what the Bible says. Jesus told the people of his day God's plan of salvation through their wedding customs. What if Jesus told the plan of salvation as though it were a wedding of today? How would it affect believers? Suzannah (known as Zannah) and Adrian are planning to marry in May, the loveliest time of year. Zannah has always wanted a beautiful, traditional wedding and feels she missed out the first time round when she married Cal, father of her daughter Isis. Now, the two families are to meet for the first time. Will the slightly bohemian Gratrixes from Cheshire and the wealthy Ashtons from the Home Counties like each other? The meeting will take place on neutral territory, at a lunch party in the home of Zannah's great aunt Charlotte in London - but no one anticipates the reaction when Zannah's mother and Adrian's stepfather first meet, and a series of events is set in motion with consequences no one expected... As the story unfolds, full of drama, conflict, revelations, reconciliations and romance, the two families plus several outsiders move forward towards the inevitable Big Day. Not everyone will get what they want. Not all marriages are made in heaven...

With remarkably original formulations, Naomi Seidman examines the ways that Hebrew, the Holy Tongue, and Yiddish, the vernacular language of Ashkenazic Jews, came to represent the masculine and feminine faces, respectively, of Ashkenazic Jewish culture. Her sophisticated history is the first book-length exploration of the sexual politics underlying the "marriage" of Hebrew and Yiddish, and it has profound implications for understanding the centrality of language choices and ideologies in the construction of modern Jewish identity. Seidman particularly examines this sexual-linguistic system as it shaped the work of two bilingual authors, S.Y. Abramovitsh, the "grand-father" of modern Hebrew and Yiddish literature; and Dvora Baron, the first modern woman writer in Hebrew (and a writer in Yiddish as well). She also provides an analysis of the roles that Hebrew "masculinity" and Yiddish "femininity" played in the Hebrew-Yiddish language wars, the divorce that ultimately ended the marriage between the languages. Theorists have long debated the role of mother and father in the child's relationship to language. Seidman presents the Ashkenazic case as an illuminating example of a society in which "mother tongue" and "father tongue" are clearly differentiated. Her work speaks to important issues in contemporary scholarship, including the psychoanalysis of language acquisition, the feminist critique of Zionism, and the nexus of women's studies and Yiddish literary history. A Marriage Made in Heaven was written by Jack E. Smith Sr. to share with his children, grandchildren, greataEUR"grandchildren (if the Lord tarries his coming that long), friends, and others how God can take two young lives that are sold out to him and bless them immensely. They do not have to be called into some type of fullaEUR"time service in order for God to be willing to use them in various ways throughout their lives. God's blessings continue through the years, for we serve the same living God today that we served in the 1960s. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Praise his holy name! The book is basically about their lives together and how God brought them together and provided for their every need throughout their time together. There is much information in the book that couples will find interesting and very possibly helpful in their relationships and marriages.
