This dissertation describes a search for Z/[gamma]* boson pair production decaying into [mu][mu][mu][mu], [mu][mu]ee, and eeee final states with approximately 1 fb-1 of data at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at √s = 1.96 TeV. The small cross section times branching ratio for each channel mandated a thorough study of the acceptance and efficiencies. After optimization, 1.7 ± 0.1 events are expected for Standard Model production with a background of 0.13 ± 0.03 events. One event was found in the [mu][mu]ee channel. A cross section limit of 4.4 pb is determined at a 95% confidence level for Standard Model production. Additionally, one parameter and two parameter 95% C.L. limits are found for the anomalous neutral trilinear gauge couplings ZZZ* and ZZ[gamma]*. The one parameter 95% C.L. coupling limits with a form factor scale of 1.2 TeV are: -0.28

Download Z Boson Transverse Momentum Distribution, and ZZ and WZ Production Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This work develops novel data analysis techniques enabling aspects of the Standard Model of particle physics to be tested with unprecedented precision using data from the DZero experiment at the high energy “Tevatron” proton-antiproton collider at Fermilab, Chicago. Vesterinen's measurements of the transverse momentum of Z bosons using the novel variable φ* have exposed deficiencies in the current state-of-the-art theoretical predictions for vector boson production at hadron colliders. These techniques are now being used in the experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and have stimulated considerable interest in the theoretical particle physics community. Furthermore, Vesterinen's measurements of the cross sections for the production of pairs of vector bosons (WZ and ZZ) are to date the most precise ever made.

Download Production of W and Z Bosons at the Tevatron Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
We present recent results on measurements of the transverse momentum distribution of W and Z bosons, the angular distribution of electrons from W decays, and on color coherence effects in W+jets events from p{bar p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The data are compared to perturbative QCD calculations.

Download Discovery Of The Higgs Boson Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The recent observation of the Higgs boson has been hailed as the scientific discovery of the century and led to the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics. This book describes the detailed science behind the decades-long search for this elusive particle at the Large Electron Positron Collider at CERN and at the Tevatron at Fermilab and its subsequent discovery and characterization at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Written by physicists who played leading roles in this epic search and discovery, this book is an authoritative and pedagogical exposition of the portrait of the Higgs boson that has emerged from a large number of experimental measurements. As the first of its kind, this book should be of interest to graduate students and researchers in particle physics.

Download Recent Electroweak Results from the Tevatron Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
W and Z bosons are mainly produced via quark-antiquark annihilations at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Precision measurements with these gauge bosons provide us with high precision tests of the Standard Model (SM) as well as indirect search for possible new physics beyond the SM. I present the recent electroweak measurements related to single W, Z boson and diboson productions from the CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.

Download A Search for Chargino-neutralino Production at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
We have searched for evidence of supersymmetry with the Collider Detector at Fermilab using trilepton events in p[anti p] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), we expect trilepton events from chargino-neutralino ([tilde[xi]][sup[+-]][sub 1][tilde[xi]][sup 0][sub 2]) pair production, with subsequent decay into leptons. In all possible combinations of electron and muon channels, we observe no candidate events in 107 pb[sup -1] of data. We present limits on chargino and neutralino production within the framework of a supergravity inspired MSSM:[sigma][sub[tilde[xi]][sup[+-]][sub 1][tilde[xi]][sup 0][sub 2]][center-dot] BR([tilde[xi]][sup[+-]][sub 1][tilde[xi]][sup 0][sub 2][yields] 3l+ X)0.34 pb and M[sub[tilde[xi]][sup[+-]][sub 1]] 81.5 GeV/c[sup 2] for tan[beta]= 2, [mu]= -600 GeV/c[sup 2] and M[sub[tilde q]]= M[sub[tilde g]]. We also present limits on a SU(5) x U(1) supergravity model and a 4 and 1/2 parameter Minimal SUGRA model.
