Born in rural Eastern North Carolina of parents near poverty, this author has told a compelling story from the heart. It is easy to read. Having been born in the south, the author scatters bits of southern humor throughout which brings a smile to your face. Death brought on despair at an early age and drugs brought on challenges to an already confusing world. Concealing a deep dark secret was hard and challenging at times and caused the author to question his God. A failed relationship brought on many moments of sad reflection, but a new love brought about happiness and laughter. Hard work and determination gave birth to a successful career that delivered the author, as an adult, from a world of poverty. Through a process of discovering his inner self, his values, his motivation, his goals, and beliefs, his life changed. It is a story of encouragement that should be read by all who have an interest in the human journey.Jan: "This is a compelling and beautiful love story. It is an easy and fun read filled with insights not only into the climb out of poverty but the coming of age of a young man in the Sixties and beyond."Loyd: "This author told a great story; I read it in one sitting."Peggi: "I was struck by the author's honesty and candid story. He 'shows' the story rather than simply telling it. That is, one can visualize the environment and even feel the tension.Don: "I couldn't put the book down. Before I knew it, I had read A Moment in Time from cover to cover."TO ORDER: CLICK ON THE BARNES AND NOBLE OR THE AMAZON TAB AT TOP LEFT HAND CORNER OF THIS PAGE. OR GO TO PLAY.GOOGLE.COM

Chapters XVI and XVII is the sequel to A Moment in Time which is a story of encouragement that should be read by all who have an interest in the human journey. Born in rural Eastern North Carolina of parents near poverty, Chris has told his story from the heart. From his southern roots, Chris is masterful at scattering bits of southern humor throughout the story he tells, which brings a smile to your face. Death brought on despair at an early age for Chris and drugs brought on challenges to an already confusing world. Concealing a deep dark secret was hard and challenging at times and caused Chris to question his God. A failed relationship brought on many moments of sad reflection, but a new love brought about happiness and laughter. Sue: "I loved it!!! It made me laugh and it made me cry --and evoked many other emotions as well." Jan: "This is a compelling and beautiful love story. It is an easy and fun read filled with insights not only into the climb out of poverty but the coming of age of a young man in the Sixties and beyond." Rosie: "I was sitting in the parking lot of the Y in Rehoboth bawling my eyes out.I wanted to drive up to your house and give you the BIGGEST hug in the entire universe! It was an inspirational story." Peggi: "I was struck by the author's honesty and candid story. He 'shows' the story rather than simply telling it. That is, one can visualize the environment and even feel the tension." John: "I put A Moment in Time on my recommended reading list last semester (I teach English at a community college just outside of Washington, D.C.). A couple of Saudi students read it, and decided to do a presentation on same sex marriage for the class. I can make a general observation - students from Asia, Slavic countries, Latin America are very supportive, but students from the Middle East and Africa are astonished that Washington, DC recognizes same sex marriage. I'm not going to be able to change any minds, and that's not really my intent as a teacher, but your book will help to get the dialogue going, and education is the key to tolerance."

A Grief Observed is a collection of Lewis's reflections on the experience of bereavement following the death of his wife, Joy Davidman, in 1960. The book was first published under the pseudonym N.W. Clerk as Lewis wished to avoid identification as the author. Though republished in 1963 after his death under his own name, the text still refers to his wife as "H" (her first name, which she rarely used, was Helen). The book is compiled from the four notebooks which Lewis used to vent and explore his grief. He illustrates the everyday trials of his life without Joy and explores fundamental questions of faith and theodicy. Lewis's step-son (Joy's son) Douglas Gresham points out in his 1994 introduction that the indefinite article 'a' in the title makes it clear that Lewis's grief is not the quintessential grief experience at the loss of a loved one, but one individual's perspective among countless others. The book helped inspire a 1985 television movie Shadowlands, as well as a 1993 film of the same name. Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. He is best known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain.

From the globally acclaimed, best-selling novelist and author of We Should All Be Feminists, a timely and deeply personal account of the loss of her father: “With raw eloquence, Notes on Grief … captures the bewildering messiness of loss in a society that requires serenity, when you’d rather just scream. Grief is impolite ... Adichie’s words put welcome, authentic voice to this most universal of emotions, which is also one of the most universally avoided” (The Washington Post). Notes on Grief is an exquisite work of meditation, remembrance, and hope, written in the wake of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's beloved father’s death in the summer of 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic raged around the world, and kept Adichie and her family members separated from one another, her father succumbed unexpectedly to complications of kidney failure. Expanding on her original New Yorker piece, Adichie shares how this loss shook her to her core. She writes about being one of the millions of people grieving this year; about the familial and cultural dimensions of grief and also about the loneliness and anger that are unavoidable in it. With signature precision of language, and glittering, devastating detail on the page—and never without touches of rich, honest humor—Adichie weaves together her own experience of her father’s death with threads of his life story, from his remarkable survival during the Biafran war, through a long career as a statistics professor, into the days of the pandemic in which he’d stay connected with his children and grandchildren over video chat from the family home in Abba, Nigeria. In the compact format of We Should All Be Feminists and Dear Ijeawele, Adichie delivers a gem of a book—a book that fundamentally connects us to one another as it probes one of the most universal human experiences. Notes on Grief is a book for this moment—a work readers will treasure and share now more than ever—and yet will prove durable and timeless, an indispensable addition to Adichie's canon.

Has your self-help become self-criticism? A wise and often hilarious exploration of the conflicts between spiritual aspiration and the compulsion to improve, from Oprah Super Soul 100 member, Danielle LaPorte.Like a wise girlfriend you can totally relate to, Danielle cheerleads you to own your wisdom and self-worth by having a good laugh (and maybe a good cry) at the ways you've been trying to improve on your self-improvement. Rooted in compassion, feminism, and spiritual activism White Hot Truth is an intimate and (hilariously) relatable account of self-help tales gone wrong, and very right. If you love Brene Brown and Liz Gilbert's authenticity, and Marianne Williamson's strong spirit, you'll adore how Danielle lays bare "Boundaries for spiritual people"; the "Discipleshit" that happens when we give our power away; a "Soul-perspective" on suffering; "over tolerance" and "foolish compassion" in relationships, sneaky self-loathing; spiritual glamour. And in her poetic and brazen way, she brings it home with the hottest truth of all: You are your own guru.
