With the issuance of volumes, whose bare enumeration is an exhausting labor, and for the perusal of which time is altogether inadequate, there has arisen a pressing - an absolute - need of condensation and classification. The requirements of a work that will meet this demand are: that it shall be complete in its citations of authorities and enable the practitioner to determine the judicial construction of statute law without the necessity of consulting some hundreds of volumes; and that it shall be concise.
