Part 2 of 3. 1941. Hitler's Operation: Silver Fox has failed, but the war on the Eastern Front drags on as the Russian winter starts to bite. British military attache Corporal Charlie Keating observes the war from the Soviet side, making sure crucial supplies get through to aid Stalin's front in the battle against the Nazis. With luck, he too will survive to see the end of the war. But something else is out there, and they're not the Nazis. No matter how hard humanity tries to kill itself, something else does it better. 30 Days of Night/Fell co-creator and Wormwood Gentleman Corpse auteur Ben Templesmith's first solo 30 Days tale is collected here, presenting a war of a different kind, one that will have repercussions felt all the way to Barrow, Alaska a half-century later. Also featuring additional story pages, character designs, a cover gallery, and an all-new cover from 2007 Scream Award nominee Templesmith.

Go deeper into the night with this continuation of the vampire tale that put horror comics back on the map! Series creators Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, joined by a cast of all-star comics talent, bring you multiple stories of blood and darkness. First, it's two stories for the price of one in Bloodsucker Tales. Kody Chamberlain provides art for Steve Niles' story, "Dead Billy Dead," in which a young man is turned into a vampire only to be abducted, along with his girlfriend, by an obssesive scientist. Then, superstar writer Matt Fraction (Sex Criminals) gets the Templesmith treatment with "Juarez," in which Lex Nova investigates the disappearances of hundreds of girls in a Mexican border town. He suspects vampire involvement. Unfortunately, an entire tribe of territorial vampires thinks the same thing. In Eben & Stella, find out what happened to the heroes of Barrow after the end of Dark Days, and before their appearance in Return to Barrow. Featuring Kelly Sue DeConnick (Bitch Planet) and Justin Randall (Changing Ways). In Templesmith's Red Snow, readers will discover that vampires aren't just a modern-day problem, and British military attaché Charle Keating, observing the battle on the eastern front from the Soviet side, will discover that, no matter how hard humanity tries to kill itself, something else does it better. Finally, Barrow may deal with yearly vampire assaults, but the entire Arctic Circle gets its share of polar night. What monsters lurk in this endless dark? Go Beyond Barrow, with Niles and superstar artist Bill Sienkiewicz (New Mutants). Collects four full volumes of the 30 Days of Night saga: Bloodsucker Tales, Eben & Stella, Red Snow, and Beyond Barrow.

McKillip, Jack Dann, and others, all paying a revisit to our favorite fairy tales in ways you’ve never dared to imagine.

Günter Koschorrek wrote his illicit diary on any scraps of paper he could lay his hands on, storing them with his mother on infrequent trips home on leave. The diary went missing, and it was not until he was reunited with his daughter in America some forty years later that it came to light and became Blood Red Snow. The author’s excitement at the first encounter with the enemy in the Russian Steppe is obvious. Later, the horror and confusion of fighting in the streets of Stalingrad are brought to life by his descriptions of the others in his unit – their differing manners and techniques for dealing with the squalor and death. He is also posted to Romania and Italy, assignments he remembers fondly compared to his time on the Eastern Front. This book stands as a memorial to the huge numbers on both sides who did not survive and is, some six decades later, the fulfilment of a responsibility the author feels to honour the memory of those who perished.

Contributions by Dorian L. Alexander, Chris Bishop, David Budgen, Lewis Call, Lillian Céspedes González, Dominic Davies, Sean Eedy, Adam Fotos, Michael Goodrum, Simon Gough, David Hitchcock, Robert Hutton, Iain A. MacInnes, Małgorzata Olsza, Philip Smith, Edward Still, and Jing Zhang In Drawing the Past, Volume 2: Comics and the Historical Imagination in the World, contributors seek to examine the many ways in which history worldwide has been explored and (re)represented through comics and how history is a complex construction of imagination, reality, and manipulation. Through a close analysis of such works as V for Vendetta, Maus, and Persepolis, this volume contends that comics are a form of mediation between sources (both primary and secondary) and the reader. Historical comics are not drawn from memory but offer a nonliteral interpretation of an object (re)constructed in the creator’s mind. Indeed, when it comes to history, stretching the limits of the imagination only serves to aid in our understanding of the past and, through that understanding, shape ourselves and our futures. This volume, the second in a two-volume series, is divided into three sections: History and Form, Historical Trauma, and Mythic Histories. The first section considers the relationship between history and the comic book form. The second section engages academic scholarship on comics that has recurring interest in the representation of war and trauma. The final section looks at mythic histories that consciously play with events that did not occur but nonetheless inflect our understanding of history. Contributors to the volume also explore questions of diversity and relationality, addressing differences between nations and the cultural, historical, and economic threads that bind them together, however loosely, and however much those bonds might chafe. Together, both volumes bring together a range of different approaches to diverse material and feature remarkable scholars from all over the world.
