Andee Bell has found exactly what she wanted: fame, fortune, respect, and a special man--Jenna's brother. Despite the success, a secret quells her contentment. As memories torment, Andee can pursue peace in a relationship with God or sabotage herself while taking down the only person she cares about. As Andee finds her life, will she lose it? Moving between San Francisco and the Napa Valley, Jenna and Andee form an unlikely relationship that leads them to a crossroad. They can follow familiar inclinations, or risk it all and walk in faith."--P. [4] of cover.

Each candidly poignant vignette from The Lost and Found Collection reaches a memorably uplifting finale that will leave significant messages to ponder. Highly recommended! The Editorial Board of The Columbia Review “The Lost and Found Collection: The Treasure of Hope” by C.B. Wallis is an inspiring non-fiction work with a strong literary tone and a high spiritual message. Part memoir, part inspirational advice, the book combines deep human insights, rich Christian wisdom, and an authentic voice that shares personal experiences in stories and contemplative memories, poetic and scriptural nuggets, and faith-based witnessing. Much of the book is told in the first person, recounting the author’s experiences that carry relevant messages of overcoming challenges, recovering from calamities, and sustaining hopes for the future. In an eerily appropriate scene, the author recounts the beginning of her spiritual journey as she picked up a new Bible on New Year’s Day and opened it to see the words: “Let there be light!” (Genesis 1:3). Indeed, this book sheds light not only on the author’s eventful life’s journey, but also on life itself and the ways in which the modern world challenges one’s sensibilities and sensitivities. Perhaps the most valuable thread in “The Lost and Found Collection: The Treasure of Hope” is its message of optimism in the face of hardship. The author’s personal journey mirror that of the scriptures’ advice she appropriately quotes: “[…] when troubles comes your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For […] when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” (James 1:2–4.) Drawing on her own life’s trials and tribulations, as well as joys and gifts, the author discusses a wide spectrum of subjects of great relevance to all—fears and worries, love and care, generosity and dignity, mental health and physical illness, adoption and family, friendship and enmity, life and death, and even war and peace, as they apply to survivors and veterans. In summary, “The Lost and Found Collection: The Treasure of Hope” by C.B. Wallis is an uplifting, spiritual memoir, sprinkled with gems of wisdom and faith. Readers will enjoy this book and benefit from it on several levels: It is a fascinating journey of personal growth and empowerment, a series of well-told, memorable stories, intriguing insights into life’s most trying moments, and invaluable guidance when confronted with an unexpected crisis. Highly recommended!

Well known for his imaginative treatment of environmental issues, Kevin Dann presents a natural history of the Lewis Creek watershed in Vermont's Champlain Valley, told largely through the lives and thought of three individuals, whose investigations brought them into close contact with the area. Congregationalist minister John Perry (1825 - 1872) conducted paleontological research on the region's Paleozoic rock and attempted to negotiate his era's confrontation between science and religion. Rowland Robinson (1833 - 1900) was a Quaker farmer and author/artist whose historical fiction often dealt with issues of human impact on this watershed. The first plant-hunting expeditions of another Quaker farmer and noted plant collector, Cyrus Pringle (1838 - 1911), took place in this watershed as well. Dann's account of these three men, whose lives span nearly a century, graphically illustrates contemporary human-nature relationships at the same time that it suggests the limits of science in circumscribing our experience of the physical landscape. The experience of pain and loss is documented along with the stories of success and celebration, since, as Dann writes, "Genuine places, like human hearts, have dark recesses within them, and by examining these recesses within the Lewis Creek watershed, we take a small step toward demythologizing Vermont."

"One of the enduring stories of the last century is the astounding 1873 discovery by the first modern archaeologist, Heinrich Schliemann, of the lost gold of Priam, king of ancient Troy. With the biographical skill that drew such praise for her book Bertrand Russell, Caroline Moorehead explores Schliemann's extraordinary life and how he contrived to smuggle the nine thousand gold chains, elaborate silver pictures, gold coins, and other amazing artifacts from his dig in Asia Minor to his government in Berlin." "Schliemann's treasures of Troy, lost when pillaged by the Nazis during World War II, received front-page coverage in 1993 when they were revealed to be residing in Moscow, having been looted in 1945 by the Russians. Here is the account, thrilling to historians, Russia-watchers, and anyone intrigued by an investigation, of how Moorehead found her way past bureaucratic defenses to learn the whereabouts of and the truth about this legendary collection."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
